Polish People's Army
The Polish People's Army ( pl, Ludowe Wojsko Polskie , LWP) constituted the second formation of the Polish Armed Forces in the East in 1943–1945, and in 1945–1989 the armed forces of the Polish communist state ( from 1952, the Polish People's Republic), ruled by the Polish Workers' Party and then the Polish United Workers' Party. The communist-led Polish armed forces, allowed and facilitated by Joseph Stalin, were the result of efforts made in the early 1940s in the Soviet Union by Wanda Wasilewska and Zygmunt Berling. Agnieszka Holland
Agnieszka Holland (born 28 November 1948) is a Poles, Polish film and television director and screenwriter, best known for her political contributions to Polish cinema. She began her career as assistant to directors Krzysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Wajda, and emigrated to France shortly before the 1981 imposition of the martial law in Poland. Holland is best known for her films ''Europa Europa'' (1990), for which she received an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, and ''The Secret Garden (1993 film), The Secret Garden'' (1993), as well as ''Angry Harvest'' and the Holocaust drama ''In Darkness (2011 film), In Darkness'', both of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2017 she received Alfred Bauer Prize (Silver Bear) for her film ''Spoor (film), Spoor'' at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2020, she was elected President of the European Film Academy. Magdalena Łazarkiewicz
Magdalena Łazarkiewicz, née Holland (born 6 July 1954 in Warsaw) is a Polish people, Polish film director and screenwriter. Life and career Magdalena Łazarkiewicz was born on 6 July 1954 in Warsaw as a daughter of Polish communism, communist politician Henryk Holland, who was of Jewish origins and his wife, Polish Catholic journalist Irena Rybczyńska-Holland. Łazarkiewicz graduated in cultural studies from the University of Wrocław and radio and television studies from the University of Silesia in Katowice. Personal life She is the sister of Polish film director Agnieszka Holland and an aunt of storyboard artist Katarzyna Adamik. Magdalena Łazarkiewicz was married to director Piotr Łazarkiewicz until he died in 2008. They have two children – son Antoni Komasa-Łazarkiewicz (composer) and daughter Gabriela Łazarkiewicz.
