Henry Willoughby, 8th Baron Middleton
Henry Willoughby, 8th Baron Middleton (28 August 1817 Nottingham – 20 December 1877 Birdsall House, Birdsall), was an English peer. He was born at Apsley Hall, Nottingham, the eldest son of Henry Willoughby (15 December 1780 – 1849) and Charlotte Eyre (died 1845) and educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He succeeded to the title of Baron Middleton in 1856, on the passing of his cousin, the 7th Baron Middleton, who died without legitimate issue.Middleton at ''Burke's Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage,'' 100th Edn, London, 1953. Digby Wentworth Bayard Willoughby, 9th Baron Middleton (24 August 1844 – 28 May 1922), was an English nobleman, the eldest son of Henry Willoughby, 8th Baron Middleton.Middleton at 'Burke's Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage,'' 100th Edn, London, 1953. He was educated at Eton. He served in the 1860s with the Scots Fusilier Guards, retiring with the rank of captain. The 9th Baron later commanded the unit as lieutenant-colonel, became Hon Col in turn on 29 May 1879, and held the post into the 20th Century. Sir Charles William Strickland, 8th Baronet (6 February 1819 – 31 December 1909) was an English barrister and a rower who was in the winning crew in the first Grand Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. He was President of the Yorkshire Philosophical Society. Strickland was born and died at Hildenley Hall, near Malton, Yorkshire. He was the eldest son of Sir George Strickland, 7th Baronet, of Boynton.
