Henry Strongman House
The Henry Strongman House is a historic house at 1443 Peterborough Road (New Hampshire Route 101) in Dublin, New Hampshire. Built about 1770 by Dublin's first permanent white settler, it is a well-preserved example of a rural Cape style farmhouse. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Description and history The Henry Strongman House stands in eastern Dublin, on the north side of Peterborough Road (NH 101) just west of its junction with Gerry Road. It is a -story wood-frame structure, with a gabled roof and clapboarded exterior. It has a six-bay front facade, with sash windows placed asymmetrically and the entrance set left of center. The placement of the windows and the brick chimney are suggestive of the idea that the rightmost bay is a later addition to what was once a symmetrical five-bay structure. Dublin, New Hampshire
Dublin is a town in Cheshire County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,532 at the 2020 census. It is home to Dublin School and ''Yankee'' magazine. History In 1749, the Masonian proprietors granted the town as "Monadnock No. 3" (or North Monadnock) to Matthew Thornton and 39 others. The 40 grantees came mostly from middle and eastern parts of New Hampshire; none of them became settlers in the township. The deed of grant, which dated November 3, 1749, was given by Col. Joseph Blanchard of Dunstable. The French and Indian War thwarted permanent settlement until the 1760s, when Irishman Henry Strongman moved from Peterborough. Other early settlers arrived from Sherborn, Massachusetts. In 1771, Governor John Wentworth incorporated the town, naming it after Strongman's birthplace: Dublin, Ireland. A Cape Cod house is a low, broad, single or double-story frame building with a moderately-steep-pitched gabled roof, a large central chimney, and very little ornamentation. New Hampshire Route 101 (NH 101) is a state-maintained highway in southern New Hampshire extending from Keene to Hampton Beach. It is the major east–west highway in the southern portion of the state. The western terminus of NH 101 is in Keene at the junction with New Hampshire Routes 9, 10 and 12. The eastern terminus is in Hampton Beach at the junction with Ocean Boulevard ( NH 1A).
