Henry Holland (cricketer)
Henry Holland (1791 at Hartley Row, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire – 2 February 1853 at Hartley Row) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1807 to 1825 for Hampshire, making 6 known appearances. Career Holland played his first match for Hampshire on 25 May 1807 against All-England at Lord's Old Ground. Batting at nine, he scored four and one not out as All-England won by 47 runs. Holland did not play another game for Hampshire for ten years until the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) faced Hampshire at Lord's Cricket Ground on 6 August 1817. During this match Holland batted at three, scoring his career best 27, following by two in the second innings, and taking two catches. Holland's final four matches came at more regular intervals. Hartley Wintney is a large village and civil parish in the Hart (district), Hart district of Hampshire, England. It lies about northwest of Fleet, Hampshire, Fleet and east of Basingstoke. Lord's Cricket Ground, commonly known as Lord's, is a cricket venue in St John's Wood, London. Godalming Cricket Club
Godalming Cricket Club is based at Godalming in Surrey, and was briefly a senior cricket team, playing 12 known first-class cricket matches between 1821 and 1825. Its home ground then was The Burys but is now Holloway Hill recreation ground. Julius Caesar began his career at Godalming where he attracted local press attention at age 16, in the ''Surrey Gazette''. He helped Godalming beat a Surrey XI at The Oval in 1849, aged 18, by making scores of 67 and 46. Recent history The club now plays home matches at Holloway Hill Sports Association's recreation ground in Godalming with clubhouse facilities in the pavilion. It is a CASC registered club with HM Revenue and Customs. In August 2004 the club played an Old England XI including John Lever, Derek Randall and Derek Underwood in a charity event to raise funds for Chace Children's Hospice. Marylebone Cricket Club
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Changes to these Laws are now determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), but the copyright is still owned by MCC. When the ICC was established in 1909, it was administered by the secretary of the MCC, and the president of MCC automatically assumed the chairmanship of ICC until 1989. For much of the 20th century, commencing with the 1903–04 tour of Australia and ending with the 1976–77 tour of India, MCC organised international tours on behalf of the England cricket team for playing Test matches. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''. Lord's Old Ground was a cricket venue in London that was established by Thomas Lord in 1787. It was used mainly by Marylebone Cricket Club for major matches until 1810, after which a dispute about rent caused Lord to relocate.
