Henry Gordon (preacher)
Henry Gordon (June 19, 1816 – 1898) was a preacher and church planter who took over Pipestone Baptist Church in 1848 after the founding Pastor R. G. Davis became ill and was no longer able to serve. He also united the Baptist Church of Georgetown and founded Looney Springs (now called Campbell Hill), and the Illinois Association of Free Communion Baptists. Early life Henry Gordon was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, to George and Nancy Gordon of the Cumberland Valley Gordons. Both of his parents were of Scottish descent, having immigrated to the United States in 1697. His grandfather was actually born during the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Gordon grew up along the Meramec River in Missouri where his father had built and operated a gristmill. Alexander Ross Gordon (11 July 1893 – 21 January 1957), known as Harry Gordon, was a popular Scottish entertainer, comedian and impressionist, touring throughout Scotland and further afield. From the 1920s through the 1950s Gordon also produced a large number of recordings, including several under assumed names. Henry Gordon (March 19, 1919 – January 24, 2009) was a Canadian author, journalist, magician and skeptic. He was the founder of the Ontario Skeptics and a fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry (CSI). Early life Gordon according to his wife Zita was a self-taught mechanic and very interested in radio repair. In 1940 when he was twenty, while walking down the street in Montreal Gordon spotted an advertisement for radio operators for the Royal Canadian Air Force. He enlisted and helped start an air training camp in western Canada. He was discharged from the service in December 1941 and opened up what might have been the first public recording studio in Montreal. In the 1960s Gordon opened up what was the first party supply store in Montreal. Henry Gordon's Party Centre whose motto was "Everything for enjoyment under one roof". Sir Henry Percy Gordon, 2nd Baronet, FRS (21 October 1806 – 29 July 1876) was a barrister and artist. Life He was the only son of Sir James Willoughby Gordon, 1st Baronet and his wife Isabella Julia Levina Bennet, daughter of Richard Henry Alexander Bennet. Gordon entered Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1823 and was senior wrangler in 1827, placed ahead of Thomas Turner (1804–1883), Anthony Cleasby, Augustus De Morgan and William Hopkins. He was made 2nd Smith's prizeman, behind Turner, also becoming a Fellow of his college that year. He received an M.A. in 1830. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1828 and called to the bar in 1831. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1830. He was a Justice of the peace and deputy lieutenant for the Isle of Wight. In 1851, Gordon succeeded to his father's title.
