Henri Putz
Henri Gabriel Putz (Metz, 26 January 1859 – Metz, 22 February 1925) was a French Army general during World War I. Early years He was born in Metz in 1859 as the son of military Jean-Baptiste Henry Putz (1824–1903), who became Brigade General in 1881 and Commander of the Légion d'honneur. When Metz became German after the Franco-German War, the Putz family applied for French citizenship. Despite being of German descent, they preferred to be French. Henri studied at the École Polytechnique where he left in 1879 as 6th of his class, and opted for the artillery. He fought against Tunisian insurgents in 1881–1882. Later he was stationed in Asia, where he participated in the Tonkin Campaign (1885–1887). He also fought in the Madagascar expedition (1896–1899) and the suppression of the Boxer Rebellion (1900–1901). Auguste Dubail
Augustin Yvon Edmond Dubail (15 April 1851 – 7 January 1934) was a French Army general. He commanded the First Army and Army Group East during World War I. Biography Augustin Dubail was born in Belfort on April 15, 1851. He graduated from the military school of Saint-Cyr in 1870 and was commissioned an officer in the infantry. During the Franco-Prussian War Dubail fought at Saarbrücken, Spicheren, Borny before being captured at Metz. After the war Dubail served as a professor at Saint-Cyr, as an officer on the border and in Algeria, where in 1901 he became colonel of the 3rd Zouaves. In 1904–1905 Dubail served twice as chief of staff of the French Minister of War Maurice Berteaux. Promoted to brigadier general, Dubail commanded the 53rd Infantry Brigade, the 5th Infantry Brigade and the 14th Infantry Brigade and was commandant of Saint-Cyr (1906–1908) before being appointed to the technical committee of the infantry. The 4th Army Corps of the French Army was reformed in 1873 at Le Mans under Général Édouard-Jean-Étienne Deligny, after being surrounded and taken prisoner in the siege of Metz (1870). World War I On mobilisation in 1914, it came under control of the Third Army (France), Third Army and comprised the 7th and 8th Infantry Division (France), 8th Infantry Divisions. The 7th Infantry Division consisted of the 13th Brigade with the 101st and 102nd Infantry Regiments and the 14th Inf Bde with the 103rd and 104th Infantry Regiments.
