Yoaz Hendel
Yoaz Hendel ( he, יוּעַז הֶנְדֶּל; born 22 May 1975) is an Israeli politician, serving as the Minister of Communications since 2021, as well as previously from May to December 2020. He was originally elected as a member of the Blue and White alliance in 2019, before leaving to form Derekh Eretz in March 2020. A military historian by training, Hendel previously worked as a journalist, was the chairman of the Institute for Zionist Strategies (IZS), and taught academic courses at Bar-Ilan University. Between 2011 and 2012 he served as Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Geerd Hendel
Geerd Niels Hendel (14 January 1903 – 30 March 1998) was a naval architect and native of Germany. He found success in the United States becoming a prominent yacht designer who had a hand in an America's Cup victory in 1937. Life and career Born in Hamburg, Hendel apprenticed for two years at Deutsche Werft shipyard in Hamburg before attending the Higher Technical Institute at Bremen where he specialized in naval architecture. Following graduation in 1925, he spent over two years in the design office of Nobiskrug shipyard in Rendsburg in Northern Germany. Hendel came to the US in November 1928 with a visa and worked in New York City in the office of Theodore Wells, naval architect. In 1935, Hendel became chief draftsman for the legendary naval architect Starling Burgess, who at the time was living in Wiscasset, Maine, and working on various projects for the Bath Iron Works, in Bath, Maine. Zvi Hendel
Zvi Hendel ( he, צבי הנדל, born 16 October 1949) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Tkuma faction of the National Union between 1996 and 2009. Biography Born in Transylvania in Romania, Hendel made aliyah in 1959 and in his military service he served as a Gadna instructor. In his reserve duty he served as part of a reconnaissance unit in the Israeli Artillery Corps and took part in the Yom Kippur War. In 1977, he moved with his family to the Israeli settlement of Ganei Tal, part of the Gush Katif bloc in the Gaza Strip. Political career In the early 1990s, Hendel was elected to the head of the Hof Aza Regional Council, and was first elected to the 14th Knesset in 1996 as a National Religious Party representative. Nechama Hendel
Nechama 'Nama' Hendel ( he, נחמה הנדל; 22 August 1936 – 30 September 1998) was an Israeli singer. She began in the IDF Nahal music troupe, and came out of the Tsahal music scene in the 1950s, first in the duet "Ran veNama" – with Ran Eliran – then later as a solo act. In 1958, Ran Eliran and Hendel were introduced to American audiences by their appearance on ''The Ed Sullivan Show'' performing " Tzena Tzena". Hendel possessed one of the most beautiful voices in Israel. She became world-famous with her smash hit "Machar" ("Tomorrow")- composed by Naomi Shemer featured on the " Jerusalem of Gold" album. She recorded many more of Shemer's songs. Hendel recorded not only in Hebrew, but in Yiddish as well and was one of the artists included on a Yiddish compilation called " Songs of The Vilna Ghetto" for CBS Records in Israel. Walter Hendl
Walter Hendl (January 12, 1917April 10, 2007) was an American conductor, composer and pianist. Biography Hendl was born in West New York, New Jersey, and later went on to study with Fritz Reiner at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. From 1939 to 1941 he taught at Sarah Lawrence College in New York City. In 1941 and 1942, he was a pianist and conductor at the Berkshire Music Center under Serge Koussevitzky. In 1945, he became associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic. In 1949, he was appointed music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and he held this position until 1958. In 1953, Hendl became the music director of the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. He remained with Chautauqua until temporary ill health necessitated his resignation in 1972. He was also active in the Symphony of the Air and conducted its 1955 tour of east Asia. In 1958, Reiner appointed Hendl associate conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and he served in this post until 1964. ...
