Helmer Osslund
Jonas Helmer Osslund, originally Åslund (22 September 1866, in Tuna Parish, Medelpad – 11 July 1938, in Stockholm) was a Swedish painter. He specialized in motifs from Lappland and often painted on greaseproof paper. Biography His father, Daniel (1826–1885), was a painter of some local note. His brother, , was also a painter and his half-sister, was an author. He changed his name from Åslund to Osslund when he lived in America, to make the correct pronunciation more obvious. After his basic education, he attended the (secondary school), then moved to the United States to study engineering. At the age of twenty, he began painting and was employed by the Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory. In 1890, they paid for a study trip to Paris. Rather than return, he quit his job and began taking lessons at the Académie Colarossi in 1894. He also absorbed Symbolism from lessons from Paul Gauguin and worked with Jens Ferdinand Willumsen. Ida Matton
Ida Elisabeth Matton (1863–1940), was a Swedish sculptor. Biography Matton was born on 24 February 1863 in Gävle. She studied at Kungliga Tekniska högskolan in Stockholm She subsequently traveled to Paris to continue her studies. There she attended the Académie Colarossi and the Académie Julian. In 1888 she exhibited at the Paris Salon. She continued exhibiting her work in Europe; in 1896 at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, in 1897 at the Art Exhibition in Stockholm, in 1900 at the Exposition Universelle, and in 1901 at the Art Exhibition in Gefle. She also exhibited her work at the Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Ida Matton was also a landscape painter, she exhibited her works from Lapland in 1927. The 1932 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the X Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1932) were an international multi-sport event held from July 30 to August 14, 1932 in Los Angeles, California, United States. The Games were held during the worldwide Great Depression, with some nations not traveling to Los Angeles; 37 nations competed, compared to the 46 in the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, and then-U.S. President Herbert Hoover did not attend the Games. The organizing committee did not report the financial details of the Games, although contemporary newspapers claimed that the Games had made a profit of US$1,000,000. Host city selection The selection of the host city for the 1932 Summer Olympics was made at the 23rd IOC Session in Rome, Italy, on 9 April 1923. Art competitions were held as part of the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States. Medals were awarded in five categories (architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture), for works inspired by sport-related themes. Art competitions were part of the Olympic program from 1912 to 1948, but were discontinued due to concerns about amateurism and professionalism. The Museum of Gothenburg ( sv, Göteborgs stadsmuseum) is a local history museum located in the city centre of Gothenburg in western Sweden. It is located in the East India House ( sv, Ostindiska huset), originally built as the Swedish East India Company offices in 1762. The city museum was established in 1861.
