The Hellenic Volleyball Federation (Greek: Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Πετοσφαίρισης, abbreviated as Ε.Ο.ΠΕ.), is a governing body for volleyball and beach volleyball in Greece. The organization oversees the A1 Ethniki Volleyball league, the Greek Volleyball Cup, the Greek Volleyball League Cup, the Greek Volleyball Super Cup, such as the women's competitions. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. The team may touch the ball up to three times to return the ball to the other side of the court, but individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively. ... Volleyball In Greece
Greece has risen to prominence in a number of sporting areas in recent decades. Football in particular has seen a rapid transformation, with the Greece national football team winning the UEFA Euro 2004. Many Greek athletes have also achieved significant success and have won world and olympic titles in numerous sports during the years, such as basketball, wrestling, water polo, athletics, weightlifting, with many of them becoming international stars inside their sports. 2014 Men's European Volleyball League
The 2014 Men's European Volleyball League was the eleventh edition of the annual men's Men's European Volleyball League, which featured men's national volleyball teams from ten European countries. Montenegro defeated Greece 5–1 match points in the final, which was played over two legs, to capture their first title. Format This year saw no final four tournament. Instead the ten teams were split into two pools and played a single round robin with playing two matchups at home and two away, making a total of eight games for each team. The Men's European Volleyball League is a continental volleyball competition senior men's national volleyball teams of Europe, organized by the European Volleyball Confederation ( CEV). Created in 2004, the competition serves as a qualifying tournament for the FIVB World League (until 2017) and to its successor the FIVB Nations League since 2018. The Men's European Volleyball Championship (''EuroVolley'') is the official competition for senior men's national volleyball teams of Europe, organized by the European Volleyball Confederation ( CEV). The initial gap between championships was variable, but since 1975 they have been awarded every two years. The current champion is Italy, which won its seventh title at the 2021 tournament. History The first tournament was held in 1948 with participation of six national teams. Being only participant from Eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia captured gold. The teams from Eastern Europe dominated at the tournament for next four decades. The next two editions held in 1950 and 1951 were won by the Soviet Union (who also won two World Championships in 1949 and 1952). The Greek Volleyball Super Cup is a volleyball club competition that takes place in Greece since 1998. It is an annual match contested between the Champion of Greek Volleyleague and the Cup’s Winner. The matches take place in different cities every year. The competition isn't held if one team has achieved the double in the previous season. Greek Volleyball League Cup " Nikos Samaras" is the third domestic competition of Greek Volleyball, started in the 2011–12 season. The first League Cup was won by Foinikas Syros who are also the current League Cup holders. The Greek Volleyball Cup began with 1980–81 season. It is organized by Hellenic Volleyball Federation. The competition was not held sometimes in the past for financial reasons . Olympiacos won the first Cup in 1981 and is the most successful club, having won the title 16 times. PAOK are the current Cup holders. In season 2008–09, it was carried out the final four tournament, but the tournament wasn't carried out and the next years because of riots in the place of final four's tournament, between the fans of Olympiacos and Panathinaikos. By the season 2011–12, the final four tournament is taken place again. From 2003 to 2012 in the competitions were taking part clubs of first division only.
