Helgeroa is a village in Larvik municipality, Norway. It is a popular tourist destination during summers. It is home to a marina, guest harbor, and a harbor for ferries operating in the Langesundsfjord. At the tip of the pier is the 8-meter tall Nesjar Monument. Before 1988 it was a part of Brunlanes municipality, and has since then grown together with the adjacent village Nevlunghavn. The two villages have a combined population of 1,573. A toll has been located at Helgeroa since 1639. The need for lodging increased with the surging ship traffic, and Helgeroa's first inn was established in the 1660s. King Christian V stayed at the inn during a visit to Helgeroa in year 1685. Helgeroa is now a popular tourist destination, and large numbers of campgrounds can be found in the immediate nearby area. Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. Brunlanes
Brunlanes is a parish and former municipality within Larvik municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It was annexed by Larvik on January 1, 1988. The administrative centre of the municipality was located in the adjacent villages of Nevlunghavn and Helgeroa. Arguably the best soil in Vestfold County can be found in Brunlanes, and farming is the main industry with considerable vegetable- and corn cultivation. It is home to Berg Old Church at Berg, which was erected in the 1100s, but laid in ruins by the 1960s. The church had been rebuilt and features a clear-cut architecture with a red tilestone roof. History The parish of Brunlagnæs was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Nevlunghavn is a village in Larvik municipality, Norway. Before the municipal merge in 1988 it was a part of Brunlanes municipality. Nevlunghavn has grown together with the adjacent village Helgeroa. The two villages have a combined population of 1,573. Nevlunghavn is the southernmost point in Vestfold County, excluding islands, islets and skerries. It was located in southernmost Brunlanes municipality, and was the administrative centre of the former municipality. It is home to a fishing pier and boat harbor, and experiences significant summer tourism. Nearby is Oddane Sand, a beach used for swimming, camping and other recreational activities. Battle Of Nesjar
Battle of Nesjar (''Slaget ved Nesjar'') was a sea battle off the coast of Norway in 1016. It was a primary event in the reign of King Olav Haraldsson (later Saint Olav). Icelandic skald and court poet Sigvatr Þórðarson composed the poem ''Nesjavísur'' in memory of the battle. A monument known as the Nesjar Monument was erected on the 1000th anniversary of the battle, located in Helgeroa village in Larvik , Vestfold County, where the battle is believed to have occurred. Langesundsfjord
The Langesundsfjord (), also known as the Breviksfjord (), is a stretch of fjord from northern Skagerrak, between the islands of Sandøya, Bjørkøya and Siktesøya in Porsgrunn municipality and the mainland of Bamble municipality, in Telemark county in the southeastern part of Norway. Location The fjord stretches from the strait Langesund until Brevik, where it separates into the Frierfjord and the Eidangerfjord. In the mediaeval period the fjord was named ''Grenmar'', after the ''grener'' people who lived here and ''mar'' which was Old Norse for sea. King Christian V
Christian V (15 April 1646 25 August 1699) was king of Denmark and Norway from 1670 until his death in 1699. Well-regarded by the common people, he was the first king anointed at Frederiksborg Castle chapel as absolute monarch since the decree that institutionalized the supremacy of the king in Denmark-Norway. Christian fortified the absolutist system against the aristocracy by accelerating his father's practice of allowing both Holstein nobles and Danish and Norwegian commoners into state service. As king, he wanted to show his power as absolute monarch through architecture, and dreamed of a Danish Versailles.
