Helen Duhamel
Helen S. Duhamel (November 26, 1904 – November 8, 1991) was an American businesswoman and broadcaster, best known for saving the Duhamel Company from bankruptcy and establishing a cluster of radio and television stations in western South Dakota and Nebraska in the United States. Early life Helen Duhamel was born on November 26, 1904 in Windsor, Missouri, and moved to northwestern Nebraska when she was two years old. There she grew up on a cattle ranch on the White River north of Chadron. Her schooling began at St. Mary's Catholic School in O'Neill, Nebraska, and was completed at St. Agnes Academy, Alliance, Nebraska. In 1920 at age 15, Helen moved with her mother to Rapid City, South Dakota. There she met Francis A. "Bud" Duhamel (1902–2000), marrying him in 1924 at age 19. Windsor, Missouri
Windsor is a city in Henry and Pettis counties, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,901 at the 2010 census. History Windsor was laid out in 1855, and originally known as Belmont. Its name was changed to Windsor in 1859, after Windsor Castle, in England. A post office called Windsor has been in operation since 1850. The Hotel Alex Johnson is a historic hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota that opened in 1928. History The hotel was built by its namesake, Alex Carlton Johnson, Vice President of the Chicago & North Western Railroad.http://moh.tie.net/content/docs/2010/Research/TheHotelAlexJohnson.pdf Construction began on August 19, 1927, just one day before work began on nearby Mount Rushmore and the hotel opened on July 1, 1928 and was officially dedicated on August 11, 1928. 1972 Black Hills Flood
The Black Hills Flood of 1972, also known as the Rapid City Flood, was the most detrimental flood in South Dakota history, and one of the deadliest floods in U.S. history. The flood took place on June 9–10, 1972 in the Black Hills of Western South Dakota. of rain in a small area over the Black Hills caused Rapid Creek and other waterways to overflow. Severe flooding of residential and commercial properties in Rapid City occurred when Canyon Lake Dam became clogged with debris and failed in the late evening hours of June 9 resulting in 238 deaths and 3,057 injuries. Scottsbluff, Nebraska
Scottsbluff is a city in Scotts Bluff County, in the western part of the state of Nebraska, in the Great Plains region of the United States. The population was 14,436 at the 2020 census. KHME (channel 23) is a television station in Rapid City, South Dakota, United States, affiliated with the classic television network MeTV. It is owned by Gray Television alongside ABC affiliate KOTA-TV (channel 3) and low-power Fox affiliate KEVN-LD (channel 7). The stations share studios on Skyline Drive in Rapid City, where KHME's transmitter is also located. KHME also operates a full-power satellite in Lead, South Dakota, KQME (channel 10), which can also be seen over-the-air in Rapid City. KQME's transmitter is located atop Terry Peak. Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) is a United States Air Force base located about northeast of Rapid City, South Dakota, just north of the town of Box Elder, South Dakota, Box Elder. The host unit at Ellsworth is the 28th Bomb Wing (28 BW).
