Heinrich Bedford-Strohm
Heinrich Bedford-Strohm (born 30 March 1960 in Memmingen) is a German Lutheran bishop. Life His father was a Lutheran priest in Memmingen. Bedford-Strohm studied Lutheran theology at Erlangen, Heidelberg and Berkeley. In 1997, he became a pastor. From 2004 until 2011, he worked at the University of Bamberg. In 2011, he became bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria. Since 2014, he is the chairman of the council of Evangelical Church in Germany, succeeding Nikolaus Schneider. Nikolaus Schneider
Nikolaus Schneider (born 3 September 1947) was from 9 November 2010 to 10 November 2014 president of the council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). Life Born in Duisburg, Schneider studied in Wuppertal, Göttingen and Münster and was ordained on 14 November 1976. He was vice-praeses of the synod of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKiR) and succeeded in 2003 Manfred Kock as praeses of the EKiR until in 2013 Manfred Rekowski was elected his successor due to Schneider's pensioning. A Landesbischof () is the head of some Protestant regional churches in Germany. Based on the principle of '' summus episcopus'' (german: landesherrliches Kirchenregiment), after the Reformation each Lutheran prince assumed the position of supreme governor of the state church in his territory. After the First World War, all the German monarchies were abolished and in some regional churches a member of the clergy was elected as ''Landesbischof''. Johannes Friedrich (born June 20, 1948 in Bielefeld-Gadderbaum) is German Lutheran theologian and was a German Lutheran bishop. Education and career Friedrich studied theology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and at the University of Tübingen, was reverend in Nuremberg, campus minister at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and German Lutheran Provost at Redeemer Church in Jerusalem. He is a member of the EKD Council of the Protestant Church in Germany, since 1999 ''Landesbischof'' (bishop) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria and from 2005 leading bishop of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany. Memmingen
Memmingen (; Swabian: ''Memmenge'') is a town in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is the economic, educational and administrative centre of the Danube-Iller region. To the west the town is flanked by the Iller, the river that marks the Baden-Württemberg border. To the north, east and south the town is surrounded by the district of Unterallgäu (Lower Allgäu).
