Heidemarie Steiner
Heidemarie Steiner married Walther, (born 9 May 1944 in Kolberg, Province of Pomerania) is a German figure skating coach and former competitor. She competed in pair skating and ladies singles. Steiner began as a single skater. But when she dropped behind fellow East German Gabriele Seyfert, she wanted to retire early. However, she changed to pair skating and teamed up with Heinz-Ulrich Walther, who also became her husband in 1969. Their greatest success was winning the bronze medal at the 1970 World Championships in Ljubljana. The pair trained at the SC Dynamo Berlin club and represented East Germany. Their coach was Heinz-Friedrich Lindner. After she retired, she became figure skating coach at the SC Dynamo Berlin club (today SC Berlin). She has coached Romy Kermer & Rolf Österreich, Birgit Lorenz & Knut Schubert, Babette Preußler & Tobias Schöter and Peggy Schwarz & Alexander König, among others. Gabriele Seyfert
Gabriele "Gaby" Seyfert (later Rüger, then Messerschmidt, now Körner, born 23 November 1948) is a German former figure skater. She is a two-time World champion (1969, 1970), and the 1968 Olympic silver medalist. She is the first lady to successfully land a triple loop jump in competition. Skating career Seyfert skated for the club SC Karl-Marx-Stadt and represented East Germany. Her coach was her mother Jutta Müller, who also coached 1984 and 1988 Olympic champion Katarina Witt. She was a long-time rival of Peggy Fleming, but never defeated her. In 1966, after two silver medals at the Europeans and the Worlds, she was voted as "the GDR female athlete of the year". She became the first woman to land a clean triple loop. Seyfert ended her figure skating career in 1970. Unlike Peggy Fleming, she was not allowed to skate professionally. East German Figure Skating Championships
The East German Figure Skating Championships were a figure skating competition held annually to determine the national champions of the German Democratic Republic, often referred to as ''East Germany''. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Organized by the DELV (the national figure skating association of the GDR), the event was held annually from 1949 to 1990. During the same period, the German Figure Skating Championships were held in the Federal Republic of Germany, commonly known as ''West Germany''. Following the reunification of Germany, East German skaters competed at the German Championships, and the East German championships were discontinued. Leslie Monod
Leslie Monod (born 1976) is a Swiss former pair skater. With Cédric Monod, she is a three-time Swiss national champion (1992–94) and placed as high as sixth at the European Championships (1993). Personal life Born 1976, Leslie Monod is the younger sister of Cédric Monod. She married Christophe Mounoud, with whom she has two children, Taotim and Natoé. She is a pediatrician. Skating career Leslie Monod competed in pairs with her brother, Cédric. They represented Switzerland internationally and CP Lausanne in domestic events. Alexander König
Alexander König (born 23 August 1966) is a German figure skating coach and former competitor. Competing in pairs with Peggy Schwarz, he became the 1988 European bronze medalist and placed seventh at three Winter Olympics. As a single skater, he is the 1982 World Junior bronze medalist. Personal life König was born on 23 August 1966 in Eilenburg, Bezirk Leipzig, East Germany. In 1969, his family moved to Berlin. Peggy Schwarz
Peggy Schwarz (born 4 September 1971 in Berlin) is a German retired pair skater. She first gained prominence skating with Alexander König. The duo captured a bronze medal at the 1988 European Figure Skating Championships and then won gold at the German Figure Skating Championships in 1992. They also competed in the Winter Olympics three times, finishing 7th in 1988, 1992, and again in 1994. Schwarz took a break from skating and gave birth to a son, Michel, in 1995. The following year, she joined forces with Mirko Müller. The pair went on to win three gold medals at the German nationals from 1998 to 2000. Babette Preußler
Babette Preußler (born 28 September 1968 in East Berlin, East Germany) is a former East German pair skater. With partner Torsten Ohlow, she won the bronze medal at the 1983 East German Figure Skating Championships. They went on to finish sixth at that year's European Figure Skating Championships and twelfth at the World Figure Skating Championships. The next year, Preußler teamed with Tobias Schröter to win another bronze medal at the East German Championships. Knut Schubert (born 9 September 1958 in Bautzen, East Germany) is a former East German pair skater. With his sister, Katja Schubert, he won the bronze medal at the 1974 East German Figure Skating Championships. They went on to finish ninth at that year's European Figure Skating Championships and eleventh at the World Figure Skating Championships. Schubert later teamed up with Birgit Lorenz. They won the gold medal at the East German Championships in 1981 and 1985, and captured the silver medal in four additional years. Rolf Österreich
Rolf Oesterreich (born 28 November 1952 in Rostock, East Germany) is a German figure skating coach and former competitor. With Romy Kermer, he is the 1976 Olympic silver medalist. Oesterreich began skating in Berlin. He first teamed up with Marlies Radunsky. From 1972 on he skated with Romy Kermer. He skated for the club SC Dynamo Berlin and was representing East Germany. His coach was Heidemarie Seiner-Walther. Romy Kermer and Rolf Oesterreich won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics 1976 in Innsbruck. In March 1976, they were both awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit for their Olympic success. After their figure skating career they married each other. Oesterreich now works as a figure skating coach at the club TUS Stuttgart.
