Hedda Strand Gardsjord
Hedda Strand Gardsjord (born 28 June 1982) is a Norwegian footballer who plays as a right-back for Toppserien club Røa IL and the Norway national team. In January 2009 Gardsjord debuted for the Norway women's national football team in a 5–1 defeat by rivals Sweden in Marbella. She was 26 years old and had never played for Norway's youth teams. Her national team chance came about when five club mates quit international football, following a furious bust-up with coach Bjarne Berntsen. She was picked for Norway's UEFA Women's Euro 2009 squad and continued to be selected by Berntsen's replacement Eli Landsem. This included a place at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, where Gardsjord played twice as Norway crashed out in the first round. Bjarne Berntsen
Bjarne Berntsen (born 21 December 1956) is a Norwegian football coach and former player. He is the elder brother of fellow football coach Alf Ingve Berntsen. Playing career Bjarne Berntsen began his football career at local club Figgjo IL. He signed for Norwegian top division club Viking in 1977, and stayed there until 1982. During this period he played 33 matches for the Norway national football team, including the famous September 1981 win over England where he played at the right back position. Early manager years After retiring as a player, Berntsen coached Figgjo, Bryne and Viking. Between 1986 and 1987, Berntsen was also the assistant coach of the Norwegian national team. Røa is a neighbourhood and a former administrative borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. In 2004 the borough of Røa was merged with neighbouring Vinderen to become Vestre Aker borough. The Toppserien is the top level of women's association football in Norway. It was founded in 1984. History Women's league football was introduced on a county basis in 1977. These leagues acted as qualification for the regional (South) league in 1979. Regional leagues were in operation until the formation of the First Division 1984, when the league was divided into three regions, Group Eastern-Norway (''Østlandet''), Group Western-Norway (''Vestlandet''), and Group Mid-Norway (''Trøndelag''). No teams from Northern-Norway (''Nord-Norge'') played, however. The winners of the three groups met each other for a play-off. Eli Landsem
Eli Landsem (born 22 March 1962) is a Norwegian former international footballer who was the coach of the Norway women's national football team between 2009 and 2012. Career As a player, Landsem won 15 caps for Norway, scoring one goal. She made her Norway debut at the age of 17, and went on to play in the 1984 European Competition for Women's Football, Norway's first UEFA tournament appearance. At club level Landsem played for Asker and collected three First Division winner's medals and two Norwegian Women's Cup winner's medals. From 1994 until 1996 Landsem coached Rælingen in 3. divisjon, the regionalised fourth tier of men's football in Norway.
