Hedaya Malak
Hedaya Malak Wahba ( ar, هداية ملاك وهبة, born 21 April 1993) is an Egyptian taekwondo practitioner. She participated in the Olympic Games in London in 2012, won a bronze medal in Rio 2016, and another bronze medal in Tokyo 2020. Career Malak took up taekwondo aged six, following her elder brother; she was joined by her younger brother. She ranked first in the Giza governorate championship before winning Egypt's championship at 14 years old. At the London 2012 Olympics, she competed in the Taekwondo women's 57 kg and qualified for the quarterfinals by defeating Robin Cheong of New Zealand in the round of 16. She was defeated at the quarterfinals by Marlène Harnois of France. She qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, ranking third in the WTF Olympic Rankings as of December 2015. Marlène Harnois
Marlène Olivia Harnois (born 22 October 1986) is a Canadian-born French taekwondo Olympic medalist, TV personality, philanthropist and a Knight of the Order of Merit, decorated by the President of France. She is a Champion for Peace representing the Peace and Sport Organisation under the High Patronage of H.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. She is also a member of the Canadian Olympic Committee, the European Taekwondo Union and a board member of the French Olympian Association. In addition she is two times European Champion, World University Champion, a World Taekwondo Championships medalist and has reached the world number one ranking. Robin Cheong
Robin Haeyoun Cheong (born 16 December 1988 in Republic of Korea) is a New Zealand taekwondo athlete, who competed in the Women's 57 kg class at the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China reaching quarter finals and eventually ranked 7th. She won gold medal that same year in the Beijing Olympic Selection competition. Cheong is a 2010 SPARC Taekwondo High Performance Project recipient, allowing her to compete internationally as a preparation for the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games. In 2008, she received the most prestigious University award - the New Zealand University Blue. Cheong is a resident of Pinehill, Auckland. The women's 57 kg competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 9 August, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Competition format The competition was held in a partial double-elimination format. The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A second repechage bracket was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, again in single-elimination competition. Each semifinal loser faced the last remaining repechage competitor from the opposite half of the bracket in a bronze medal match.
