Hebrew University Stadium (also National and University Stadium) is a multi-use National stadium on the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Jerusalem. History The National and University Stadium was inaugurated in 1958 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel. The stadium holds 4,000 spectators. It hosted some of the 1964 AFC Asian Cup matches, as well as the opening ceremonies of the 1968 Summer Paralympics. In 1997 the stadium was renovated and used for athletic contests and football games of Agudat Sport Nordia Jerusalem. 1964 AFC Asian Cup
The 1964 AFC Asian Cup was the 3rd edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The finals were held in Israel from 26 May to 3 June 1964. The tournament used a round-robin system with the winners from the West, Central 1 and 2 and East Asia zones and the team from the host nation (Israel) competing for the title. 11 of the 17 nations withdrew with the result that only one zone (combined Central 1 and 2) played any qualifying matches and the winners of 2 zones and host Israel qualified uncontested. 1968 Summer Paralympics
The 1968 Summer Paralympics ( he, המשחקים הפאראלימפיים בקיץ 1968) were the third Paralympic Games to be held. Organised under the guidance of the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF), they were known as the 17th International Stoke Mandeville Games at the time. The games were originally planned to be held alongside the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, but in 1966, the Mexican government decided against it due to difficulties. The Israeli government offered to host the games in Tel Aviv, a suggestion that was accepted. The opening ceremony took place in the Hebrew University stadium at the Givat Ram campus in Jerusalem and the games took place in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv District, at the Israel Sports Center for the Disabled.
