''Heaven'' is the fourth studio album by the Cincinnati indie rock group Pomegranates, released June 5, 2012, on Modern Outsider Records. It was produced by Miguel Urbitztondo who has worked with acts such as Cracker, Daniel Johnston, and Sparklehorse. Pomegranates are an indie rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. They briefly changed their name to Healing Power before disbanding, but they reverted to Pomegranates when reforming the band. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. Modern Outsider
Modern Outsider is a management company and independent record label founded by husband and wife team, Chip and Erin Adams, in October 2010 in Austin, Texas. Collectively, they have well over two decades of experience in various facets of the music industry, from radio promotion at Dangerbird Records, Capitol Records, The Syndicate and Cornerstone (agency) where they also handled digital marketing; they were in charge of editorial at the tastemaking site, TheTripwire.com. ''One of Us'' is the third studio album by the Cincinnati indie rock group Pomegranates, released October 26, 2010, on Afternoon Records. It was produced by TJ Lipple of Aloha. Critical reception ''One of Us'' received mostly positive reviews. Giving the album 7/10, William Goodman of Spin declares "All 13 kaleidoscopic tracks, particularly standout 'Anywhere You Go,' a supercollider of rhythmic groove, guitar, and Wurlitzer organ, distill a decade-plus of indie and alt rock into a sparking art-pop swell. Spazzing out, Joey Cook cries: 'I really like you!' The feeling's mutual." Daniel Johnston
Daniel Dale Johnston (January 22, 1961 – September 11, 2019) was an American singer, musician and artist regarded as a significant figure in outsider, lo-fi, and alternative music scenes. Most of his work consisted of cassettes recorded alone in his home, and his music was frequently cited for its "pure" and "childlike" qualities. Johnston spent extended periods in psychiatric institutions and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He garnered a local following in the 1980s by passing out tapes of his music while working at a McDonald's in Dobie Center in Austin, Texas. His cult status was propelled when Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was seen wearing a T-shirt that featured artwork from Johnston's 1983 cassette album ''Hi, How Are You''. Johnston also created visual art, and his illustrations were exhibited at galleries around the world. Sparklehorse
Sparklehorse was an American indie rock band from Richmond, Virginia, led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous. Sparklehorse was active from 1995 until Linkous' 2010 death. Prior to forming Sparklehorse, Linkous fronted local bands Johnson Family and Salt Chunk Mary. Only one song, "Someday I Will Treat You Good," survived from these earlier bands to be played by Sparklehorse. Linkous stated that he ultimately chose Sparklehorse for a name because the two words sounded good together and it could loosely be used as a metaphor for a motorcycle.
