Heather Hiscox
Heather Hiscox (born 18 November 1965) is a Canadian news anchor who hosts ''CBC News Now'' from 6 to 10 a.m. on weekdays on CBC News Network. She was also the host of the CBC's former flagship morning television program '' CBC News: Morning'' which became part of ''CBC News Now'' when the network re-branded itself in 2009. Biography Hiscox was born in Owen Sound, Ontario and grew up in a medical family. She graduated in 1986 from the University of Toronto, with a B.A. in French language and literature and from the University of Western Ontario in 1987 with a master's degree in journalism. She has previously worked for CFPL-TV, CBC Montreal, the Global Television Network, ASN and CHCH in Hamilton, Ontario, before returning to the CBC at the network level. She also co-hosted a morning show on 1290 CJBK in London, Ontario with Steve Garrison from 1990–1991. Owen Sound
Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. In 1815, William Fitzwilliam Owen surveyed the area and named the inlet after his older brother Admiral Edward Owen. The name of the area in Ojibwe language is ''Gchi-wiigwedong''. A settlement called "Sydenham" was established in 1840 or 1841 by Charles Rankin in an area that had been inhabited by First Nations people. John Telfer settled here at that time and others followed. Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Hamilton has a population of 569,353, and its census metropolitan area, which includes Burlington and Grimsby, has a population of 785,184. Miss Teen Canada
Miss Teen Canada was a personality and beauty competition in Canada for women aged 14 to 17. The event started in 1969 and was televised on CTV. The pageant was named Miss Teenage Canada for its first three years and was originally sponsored by A&W Drive-Ins. Cleo Productions, who owned the event for most of its years, closed the contest down in 1990 due to financial concerns. Several teen pageants exist again in Canada today, the biggest of which is Miss Teenage Canada, run by Michelle Weswaldi, Miss World Canada 1996. CINW
CINW was the final call sign used by an English language AM radio station in Montreal, Quebec, which, along with French-language sister station CINF, ceased operations at 7:00 p.m. ET on January 29, 2010. Owned and operated by Corus Quebec, it broadcast on 940 kHz with a full-time power of 50,000 watts as a clear channel, Class A station, using a slightly directional antenna designed to improve reception in downtown Montreal. Due to its heritage, the station is generally considered to be Canada's first and oldest broadcasting station, as well as one of the first in the world. CFPS-FM is a Canadian radio station in Port Elgin, Ontario, broadcasting at 97.9 FM, with a active rock format with the on-air branding ''97.9 The Bruce''. The station originally began broadcasting on the AM band at 1490 kHz on June 21, 1978. CFPS was launched by its sister station, CFOS in Owen Sound, as a semi-satellite radio station. On February 17, 2005, Bayshore Broadcasting received approval to convert CFPS from the AM band to the FM band at 97.9 MHz. The station was launched on 97.9 FM on May 20, 2005 as ''98 The Beach'' and the old AM signal signed off the same day. CFOS is an AM radio station broadcasting from Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. The format is oldies, classic adult contemporary music, and news (plus an adult standards/nostalgic music show, "Remember When," several nights a week from 8-11 p.m.), and is branded as ''560 CFOS''. CFOS is owned and operated by Bayshore Broadcasting of Owen Sound. History The station originally began broadcasting on March 1, 1940 at 1370 kHz, and changed frequencies to 1400 kHz on March 29, 1941 and again to 1470 kHz in 1947. In 1958, CFOS again changed frequencies from 1470 to its current frequency at 560 kHz.
