CFOS is an AM radio station broadcasting from Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. The format is oldies, classic adult contemporary music, and news (plus an adult standards/nostalgic music show, "Remember When," several nights a week from 8-11 p.m.), and is branded as ''560 CFOS''. CFOS is owned and operated by Bayshore Broadcasting of Owen Sound. History The station originally began broadcasting on March 1, 1940 at 1370 kHz, and changed frequencies to 1400 kHz on March 29, 1941 and again to 1470 kHz in 1947. In 1958, CFOS again changed frequencies from 1470 to its current frequency at 560 kHz. CFOS was a network affiliate of CBC Radio's Dominion Network until 1962 and then affiliated with the main CBC Radio network for several years until 1983 when CBCB-FM launched. CIXK-FM, branded as ''Mix 106.5'', is a Canadian FM radio station, broadcasting from studios on 9th Street East in downtown Owen Sound, Ontario. CIXK is the most listened to radio station in Owen Sound. History In 1987, Bayshore Broadcasting Corp., owner of 560 CFOS, filed an application with the CRTC for a new FM station to serve Owen Sound. The application was approved by the CRTC on October 26 the same year. Transmitter testing at 106.5 MHz began in late 1988 and was launched on January 3, 1989 as ''K106.5''. In the 1990s CIXK-FM aired a mix of acoustic rock and country crossover format using the slogan "The mix that kicks". CFPS-FM is a Canadian radio station in Port Elgin, Ontario, broadcasting at 97.9 FM, with a active rock format with the on-air branding ''97.9 The Bruce''. The station originally began broadcasting on the AM band at 1490 kHz on June 21, 1978. CFPS was launched by its sister station, CFOS in Owen Sound, as a semi-satellite radio station. On February 17, 2005, Bayshore Broadcasting received approval to convert CFPS from the AM band to the FM band at 97.9 MHz. Owen Sound
Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. In 1815, William Fitzwilliam Owen surveyed the area and named the inlet after his older brother Admiral Edward Owen. The name of the area in Ojibwe language is ''Gchi-wiigwedong''. Dominion Network
The Dominion Network was the second English-language radio network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from January 1, 1944 to 1962. It consisted of the CBC-owned CJBC radio station in Toronto and a series of 34 privately owned affiliates from coast-to-coast. The Dominion Network was set up as a complementary network to the CBC's main English service which became known as the Trans-Canada Network. Collingwood, Ontario
Collingwood is a town in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is situated on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern point of Georgian Bay. Collingwood is well known as a tourist destination, for its skiing in the winter, and limestone caves along the Niagara Escarpment in the summer. History The land in the area was first inhabited by the Iroquoian-speaking Petun nation, which built a string of villages in the vicinity of the nearby Niagara Escarpment. They were driven from the region by the Iroquois in 1650 who withdrew from the region around 1700.
