Heath Shephard
Heath Shephard (born 7 September 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Shephard was drafted by Collingwood under the "Father-Son" rule, as his Graeme had played at the club in the early 1970s. Although he grew up in Tasmania, he was playing at Victorian club Robinvale when Collingwood secured his services. He had a memorable VFL debut, against the Brisbane Bears at Victoria Park in the third round of the 1989 season. His 18 disposals included five goals and five behinds. He kicked another two goals the following week but his form then dropped off and he finished the season with nine games to his name. In 1990, Collingwood ended up breaking their premiership drought and Shephard, having played only twice that year due to a loss of form and a broken arm, returned to Tasmania. Tasmanian Football League
The Tasmanian State League (TSL), colloquially known as the "Tasmanian Football League (TFL)" (formerly known as the "Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL)" and several other short-term names) is the highest ranked Australian rules football league in Tasmania, Australia. West Preston Lakeside Football Club
West Preston Lakeside Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Reservoir, Victoria, currently competing in the Northern Football League. History The West Preston F.C. was formed in 1948 in the CYMS competition. It remained there until 1963, when it joined the very strong church based YCW National Football Association. The club had a reasonable amount of success and it was decided that it should field junior sides as well and from those early days more than 10 players from those sides went on to join the ranks of the then VFL. The club had continued to grow which led the club to apply for membership in the Diamond Valley Football League in 1981. The DVFL was one of, if not the strongest of Melbourne's suburban competitions and thus the successful application was a great moment for the club. Burnie Hawks Football Club
The Burnie Hawks Football Club was an Australian rules football club based in Burnie, Tasmania, Australia from 1987 to 1994. History The club was founded in 1987 after former North West Football Union (NWFU) club Cooee Bulldogs (1894–1986) closed down its operation in order to wipe out its large debts and rebrand itself with a more metropolitan-based name for its inclusion in the Tasmanian Football League (TFL) in that year. Cooee had been locked in a battle with its West Park co-tenant (Burnie Tigers) to desperately gain a licence to join the Tasmanian competition from midway through 1986, and it was the rebranding of the club which was seen to have tipped the scales in favour of Cooee/Burnie Hawks. The 1988 VFL draft, held on the 9th of November 1988, was the third annual national draft held by the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). It consisted of a pre-season draft and a national draft. In 1988 there were 112 picks to be drafted between 14 teams in the national draft. 1989 VFL Season
The 1989 VFL season was the 93rd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition and administrative body in Victoria and, by reason of it featuring clubs from New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, the ''de facto'' highest level senior competition in Australia. The season featured fourteen clubs, ran from 31 March until 30 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs.
