Haysi High School was a public high school located in Haysi, Virginia, in Dickenson County, Virginia. It is part of the Dickenson County School Division. Haysi, Virginia
Haysi ( ) is a town in Dickenson County, Virginia, United States. The population was 498 at the 2010 census, up from 186 at the 2000 census, over which time period the town's area tripled. History Haysi is located at the confluence of Russell Prater Creek, the McClure River, and the Russell Fork river. The area where Haysi is located used to be known as "The Mouth of McClure". As late as 1911, Haysi was only sparsely populated and was often referred to as a laurel bed. The first store was constructed within the present town limits of Haysi by Paris Charles for workers of the Yellow Poplar Lumber Company. Haysi began to grow with the construction of the Clinchfield Railroad between 1912 and 1915 as stores sprang up to serve the railroad workers. The railroad was constructed to export natural resources such as timber and coal from the area, and thus later growth of the town centered on workers for the coal mines which began operating around 1916. Clintwood High School
Clintwood High School (CHS) was one of three high schools in Dickenson County, Virginia, United States. It is located in Clintwood, the county seat of Dickenson County. It combined with aysi High Schoolin the 2015–2016 school year to form Ridgeview High School. Athletics Football Clintwood won four state championships in football, three under legendary former head coach Ralph Cummins (1974, 1975, 1978). The fourth was won under former coach Rick Mullins, who played on the 1978 state title team, in 2011. Clintwood played at Ralph Cummins Stadium. Coach Cummins was the head coach of the Clintwood Football team for 35 years; his teams won 271 games, going undefeated in the regular season 10 times. Honaker High School
Honaker High School is a public high school located in Honaker, Virginia in Russell County, Virginia. Athletic teams compete in the Virginia High School League's Class 1 Black Diamond District in Region 1D. Extracurricular activities As a member school of the Virginia High School League, all of Honaker High's extracurricular athletic and academic activities generally fall under the Region D's Black Diamond District in the smallest public school size, "A" or "1A," depending on the activity. In VHSL's history, Honaker High has produced three members of the league's Hall of Fame: Heath Miller, longtime baseball coach Tom Harding, and Ben Valley, 1951–55, who also played basketball for cross-county rival Lebanon High School during his career. A Black Diamond District
The A Black Diamond District is a high school conference of the Virginia High School League which draws its members from the western part of Southwest Virginia. The schools in the Black Diamond District compete in A Region D with the schools of the A Cumberland District, and the A Lonesome Pine District. The district gets its name from the "black diamond," a nickname for the coal whose mining formed the backbone of the region's economy until the 1980s. Haysi and Honaker have a larger enrollment than the other schools in the district, sometimes leading to disparities, mostly in football. This is aggravated by Council choosing not to field a football team due to the schools small size and inability to produce enough athletes (typical Council football teams consisted of 15-20 players). Dickenson County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,124. Its county seat is Clintwood. History Dickenson County, formed in 1880 from parts of Buchanan County, Russell County, and Wise County, is Virginia's youngest county. It was named for William J.
