Hayden William Owens
Hayden William Owens (June 21, 1908 – October 16, 1981) was a businessman and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Elrose from 1971 to 1975 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, grew up on the family farm and was educated in Eston and at the University of Saskatchewan. Elrose (electoral District)
Elrose was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southwestern Saskatchewan, this constituency was centred on the town of Elrose. The riding was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912 as "Eagle Creek"; it was renamed "Elrose" in 1917. The district was dissolved and combined with the Rosetown riding (as Rosetown-Elrose) before the 18th Saskatchewan general election in 1975. It is now part of a revived Rosetown-Elrose constituency. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. Swift Current
Swift Current is the fifth largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is situated along the Trans Canada Highway west of Moose Jaw, and east of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Swift Current grew 6.8% between 2011 and 2016, ending up at 16,604 residents. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Swift Current No. 137. Eston is a town in Snipe Lake Rural Municipality No. 259, Saskatchewan, Canada. The population was 1061 at the 2016 Census. Snipe Lake No
A snipe is any of about 26 wading bird species in three genera in the family Scolopacidae. They are characterized by a very long, slender bill, eyes placed high on the head, and cryptic/camouflaging plumage. Roy Bailey (politician)
Roy Hardeman Bailey (December 16, 1928 – December 13, 2018) was a Canadian politician. Formerly a member of the Social Credit Party of Saskatchewan, Bailey joined the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan when the Social Credit and PC parties merged under the PC name in 1971. Bailey ran for the leadership of the Saskatchewan PC Party in 1973, placing second to Dick Collver. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 1975 provincial election as the Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly for Rosetown-Elrose, and served until 1978. Bailey was a school board trustee in the Borderland School Division (since consolidated into the Prairie South School Division) from 1984 to 1993. Rosetown-Elrose is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The largest community is Rosetown with a population of 2,277.
