Haydar ( ar, حيدر), also spelt Hajdar, Hayder, Heidar, Haider, Heydar, and other variants, is an Arabic male given name, also used as a surname, meaning "lion". In Islamic tradition, the name is primarily associated with Ali, Ali ibn Abi Talib (first Imamate in Shia doctrine, Shia Imam and fourth Rashidun, Rashidun Caliph), the son-in-law and cousin of Muhammad, who was nicknamed "Haydar". Haydar Aşan
Haydar Aşan (16 April 1906 – 29 February 1996) was a Turkish-American Olympic sprinter. He competed in the men's 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1928 Summer Olympics. He also competed as a high jumper, pole vaulter, and professional football player. As a teenager he competed in local athletic championships and began amateur boxing. In 1924, at age 18 he joined the professional Fenerbahçe football team, a year later he changed to the Galatasaray football team and stayed there for ten years. In 1931 and 1932, Aşan won second place in the Balkan Athletics Championships. In 1933, he won first place, which was the first time in history Turkey won the gold medal in athletics at the Balkan Athletics Championships. Darren J. Haydar (born October 22, 1979) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey winger. Haydar was selected by the Nashville Predators in the ninth round (248th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He is one of the top AHL players of all-time, having won two Calder Cup championships and is the AHL’s all-time leader in playoff goals (63), assists (80) and points (143). Playing career Prior to turning professional Haydar played two years with the Milton Merchants of the Junior A Ontario Provincial Hockey League, where he established league records for goals (71) and points (140) in a season. Mohammed Haydar Zammar ( ar, محمد حيدر زمار ''Muḥammad Ḥaydar Zammār'') (born 1961) is a Syrian-German militant who served as an important al-Qaida recruiter, and is currently a member of the Islamic State. Ali Haydar Şen (born 1939 in Prizren, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, now Kosovo) is an ex-president of Fenerbahçe SK. Early life Şen was born to an ethnic Turkish family in Kosovo. Career He worked as a journalist for a short time, before he first came to Fenerbahçe in 1975, when he was made the head of the club's basketball branch. On April 12, 1981, he was chosen as club president, taking the reins from Razi Trak. During his first spell as club president, the club's football team won the league and cup double in the 1982-83 season, and his tenure ended on December 10 when he resigned. He had one more spell at the club, from December 1994 through until 1998 with the football side again winning a championship a year after he came to power. Ayatollah Haydar al-Sadr ( ar, حيدر الصدر; 1891–1937) was born in Samarra, Iraq. His father, Ismail as-Sadr (d. 1920) was a Grand Ayatollah and the first to be use the as-Sadr (name), Sadr surname, which came to be associated with a long line of religious scholarship within Shia Islam.
