Hawaii Route 72
Route 72, commonly known as Kalanianaole Highway, is the main highway serving southeast Oahu. Beginning at the eastern terminus of Interstate H-1 (H-1), the east–west highway travels along the southeastern shore of Oahu through various residential neighborhoods, including Hawaii Kai. It turns northwest at Makapuu and runs through Waimānalo before terminating in Maunawili at an intersection with Kamehameha Highway and Pali Highway. The highway is named for Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaole, a former prince of the Kingdom of Hawaii. Route description Route 72 begins as an extension of Interstate H-1 (the Lunalilo Freeway), near the Kahala Mall in eastern Honolulu. The six-lane road travels east through a residential neighborhood along the north side of the Waialae Country Club towards the Pacific Coast. Waialae Country Club
Waialae Country Club is a private country club in East Honolulu, Hawaii. Founded in 1927 and designed by Seth Raynor, it is a par 72 championship course at from the Championship tees. Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), formerly Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay and originally Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, is a U.S. Marine Corps facility and air station located on the Mokapu Peninsula of windward O'ahu in the City & County of Honolulu. Kailua () is a census-designated place (CDP) in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. It lies in the Koolaupoko District of the island of Oahu on the windward coast at Kailua Bay. It is in the judicial district and the ahupua'a named Ko'olaupoko. It is northeast of Honolulu – over Nu‘uanu Pali. Koko Crater (Hawaiian language, Hawaiian: ''Kohelepelepe'' or ''Puʻu Mai'') is an extinct tuff cone located on the Hawaiian Islands, Hawaiian island of Oahu near Hawaii Kai, Hawaii, Hawaii Kai. It is northeast of Hanauma Bay and south of the Koʻolau Range. Hawaiʻi Kai
Maunalua (Hawaii Kai) is a largely residential area located in the City & County of Honolulu, in the East Honolulu CDP, on the island of Oahu. Maunalua, (Hawaii Kai) is the largest of several communities at the eastern end of the island. The area was largely developed by Henry J. Kaiser around the ancient Maunalua fishpond and wetlands area known as Kuapā (meaning "fishpond wall"). The Hawaii Kai or Koko Marina was dredged from Kuapā Pond starting around 1959. Dredging not only transformed the shallow coastal inlet and wetlands into a marine embayment, but was accompanied by considerable filling and clearing of the pond margins. Āina Haina is an unincorporated town of the City & County of Honolulu in the state of Hawaii of the United States. Located on the island of Oahu, Āina Haina is a residential community developed around Kalanianaole Highway east of Waikīkī and Diamond Head. Āina Haina was named after local dairyman and owner of Hind-Clarke Dairy, Robert Hind. Āina Haina in the Hawaiian language means "Hind's Land". A main street is a loop named Hind Drive for him.
