Haunetal
Haunetal is a municipality in Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse, Germany. Haunetal is the district's southernmost municipality. Geography Location Haunetal is located in the ''Vorderrhön'' (literally: “Anterior Rhön”) between Bad Hersfeld, which is some from it, and Hünfeld, which is some from it. The community stretches along both sides of the lower Haune river. Rising above the community is the Stoppelsberg. Rhön Mountains
The Rhön Mountains () are a group of low mountains (or ''Mittelgebirge'') in central Germany, located around the border area where the states of Hesse, Bavaria and Thuringia come together. These mountains, which are at the extreme southeast end of the East Hesse Highlands (''Osthessisches Bergland''), are partly a result of ancient volcanic activity. They are separated from the Vogelsberg Mountains by the river Fulda and its valley. The highest mountain in the Rhön is the Wasserkuppe (), which is in Hesse. The Rhön Mountains are a popular tourist destination and walking area. Bad Hersfeld
The festival and spa town of Bad Hersfeld (''Bad'' is "spa" in German; the Old High German name of the city was ''Herolfisfeld'') is the district seat of the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in northeastern Hesse, Germany, roughly 50 km southeast of Kassel. Bad Hersfeld is known countrywide above all for the ''Bad Hersfelder Festspiele'' (festival), which have taken place each year since 1951 at the monastery ruins. These themselves are said to be Europe's biggest Romanesque church ruin. In 1967, the town hosted the seventh ''Hessentag'' state festival. Fulda (river)
The Fulda () is a river of Hesse and Lower Saxony, Germany. It is one of two headstreams of the Weser (the other one being the Werra). The Fulda is long. The river arises at Wasserkuppe in the Rhön mountains in Hesse. From there it runs northeast, flanked by the Knüll mountains in the west and the Seulingswald in the east. Near Bebra it changes direction to the northwest. After joining the Eder river it flows straight north until Kassel, then changes direction to the northeast, with the Kaufungen Forest east and the beginning of the Reinhardswald forest northwest. The north end of the river meets the Werra in Hannoversch Münden, Lower Saxony, where the Fulda and the Werra join to form the Weser river. Burghaun
Burghaun is a municipality in the district of Fulda in the state of Hessen in Germany. Burghaun itself is a small town with about 3,800 residents. Following the administrative reorganization of Germany in 1972 when smaller communities were grouped together, Burghaun took in the nearby villages of Großenmoor, Gruben, Hechelmannskirchen, Hünhan, (shippo muito) Langenschwarz, Rothenkirchen, Schlotzau and Steinbach. The municipality of Burghaun (the town itself plus these nearby villages) currently has a total of about 7,000 inhabitants. As the name "Burghaun" suggests, the town is in the valley of the Haune, a small river that flows into the river Fulda. East Hesse
East Hesse (german: Osthessen) is a common but not unofficial regional name for the eastern part of the German state of Hesse as well as a regional planning region. It corresponds roughly to the Hessian catchment area of Fulda and its heart covers the county of Fulda, the eastern part of the county of Vogelsbergkreis and the old counties of Hersfeld and Schlüchtern, but there is no clear boundary of East Hesse with North Hesse, Middle Hesse and South Hesse. In older sources, a landscape, roughly identical with the current East Hesse area, was commonly called '' Buchonia''.
