Hatley, Quebec (historic Township)
Hatley was a Canadian township (''canton'') in the Estrie region of Quebec. It was created on 25 March 1803 by publication in the Gazette de Québec, an unofficial publication of the Government of Lower Canada. The territory of the township was later divided, which led to the creation of current Hatley township (''municipalité de canton'') and Hatley municipality (''municipalité''), amongst others. History Over the years, the territory of Hatley township, created in 1803 and inhabited since 1795, gave rise to different administrative units. In 1845, Hatley Township obtained its letters patent (''lettres patentes'') but, in 1847 it was abolished again and merged with Stanstead Township. It was re-established in its current form in 1855. Estrie
Estrie () is an administrative region of Quebec that comprises the Eastern Townships. ''Estrie'', a French neologism, was coined as a derivative of ''est'', "east". Originally settled by anglophones, today it is about 90 per cent francophone. Anglophones are concentrated in Lennoxville, Quebec, Lennoxville, home of the region's only English-speaking university, Bishop's University. The Eastern Townships School Board runs 20 elementary schools, three high schools, and a learning centre. The region originally consisted of 6 RCM's. In 2021, La Haute-Yamaska & Brome-Missisquoi joined Estrie, transferring from Montérégie. The ''Gazette officielle du Québec'' is an official publication of the Quebec government. It is used to promulgate new laws and regulations, which thereby become official. It was founded on January 16, 1869. An earlier ''Gazette de Québec'' was an unofficial publication created in 1764, and was replaced by ''Gazette officielle du Québec'' in 1823. Archived versions of the ''Gazette'' from 1869 to 1995 are available. An annual subscription to the Gazette costs $1185 ($500 and $685, for part 1 and 2, respectively) per year, for both parts. Lower Canada
The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Hatley, Quebec (municipality)
Hatley is a municipality of about 771 people, in Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It lies to the south of the township municipality of the same name. An otherwise quiet and tiny agricultural setting, one of Hatley's main claims to fame is its annual Canada Day Celebration which always takes place on July 1. Along with a parade (featuring horses, floats, antique cars, tractors, children on decorated bikes and any number of other entrants), the day includes games for children, artisan vendors, a book sale, community lunch, local performers, and ends off with a fireworks display. North Hatley
North Hatley is a village of 675 people (2021 Census), located at the north end of Lake Massawippi. It is part of the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec, Canada, also known as Estrie or Cantons de l'Est in French. Ayer's Cliff ( 2021 population 1,180) is a village municipality in the Memphrémagog Regional County Municipality in the Estrie region of Quebec.
