Julian Hatcher
Julian Sommerville Hatcher (June 26, 1888 – December 4, 1963), was a U.S. Army major general, noted firearms expert and author of the early twentieth century. He is credited with several technical books and articles relating to military firearms, ballistics, and autoloading weapons. His premier works are ''Hatcher's Notebook'' and ''Book of the Garand'', along with ''Pistols and Revolvers and Their Use''s and ''Textbook of Pistols and Revolvers''. In the latter work he introduced the Hatcher Scale, probably the first attempt to determine the stopping power of a handgun round by a formula. He was also a pioneer in the forensic identification of firearms and their ammunition. Hatcher retired from the United States Army as a Major General. Afterward, he served as Technical Editor of the National Rifle Association's ''American Rifleman'' magazine. Wiley Ward Hatcher (May 3, 1828???) was an American businessman and politician. He served one term in the Wisconsin State Assembly representing Fond du Lac County. Biography Wiley Ward Hatcher was born in Henry County, Tennessee, on May 3, 1828. His parents both died of Typhoid fever just two years later, leaving him an orphan. He was sent to live with his mother's brother, James Baker. He had little education as a child, but at age seventeen went off on his own, working as a farmhand in the summers and attending school in the winters. In 1849, he went west for the California Gold Rush. He took a ship from New Orleans around Cape Horn, and stopped briefly in Valparaíso, before arriving in California. Michael Vaughn Hatcher (born March 15, 1955) is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball as an outfielder, third baseman and first baseman from through , most notably as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers when he replaced an injured Kirk Gibson in the 1988 World Series and hit .368 (7/19) with two home runs and five RBI to help the Dodgers win the world championship. Lillian Hatcher (1915–1998) was an African American riveter and union organizer. She was employed at the Briggs aircraft plant in Detroit when she first became active in union organizing after the company transferred a group of female employees, white and black, all of whom had children, to the midnight shift. Life and work Lillian Hatcher was born on May 30, 1915, in Greenville, Alabama. She graduated from Northeastern High School in Detroit and attended workers' extension classes at the University of Michigan in the early 1940s. In 1943 she began work as an aircraft riveter and as one of the first Black women hired at Chrysler's Briggs-Connor Plant. Hatcher's career highlights include working as the bureau chief for the Macquarie Radio Network in the Canberra Press Gallery. Kevin John Hatcher (born September 9, 1966) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the NHL for 17 seasons between 1984 and 2001 for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. He is the older brother of former NHL player Derian Hatcher, with whom he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame on October 21, 2010.
