Nathaniel Stephen Appleby
Nathaniel Stephen Appleby (1811–1890) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Hastings East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as an independent Conservative from 1875 to 1883. He was born in Tyendinaga, Upper Canada in 1820, the son of Thomas Dorland Appleby, and educated in Belleville, Ontario. He operated flour mills near Shannonville, Ontario. In 1842, he married Sarah Maria Lewis. Appleby was reeve for Tyendinaga Township from 1851 to 1870 and warden for Hastings County from 1858 to 1862. He also served as justice of the peace. Alexander McLaren
Alexander McLaren (December 10, 1859 – July 2, 1916) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Hastings East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal-Patrons of Industry member from 1894 to 1898. Edward Walter Rathbun
Edward Walter Rathbun (December 28, 1865 – September 6, 1940) was a business owner and politician in Ontario, Canada. He represented Hastings East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1905 to 1908 as an independent Liberal. From 1914, Rathbun was the mayor of Deseronto. The son of Edward Wilkes Rathbun and Elizabeth How Burt, he was born in Deseronto. Rathbun took over the operation of the family lumber company following his father's death in 1903. The Rathbun Company also operated the Bay of Quinte Railway. Rathbun was lieutenant-colonel in the local militia and went overseas as the leader of a brigade in the Canadian Field Artillery in 1915. In 1916, he transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps. Rathbun also served as mayor of Deseronto. In 1893, Rathbun married Aileen Blair in England. He died in Deseronto at the age of 74. Lloyd Harrison Price (April 12, 1920 - May 1, 2007) was a Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1958 to 1959. He was the party's candidate in a by-election in Hastings East. The by-election had been scheduled for September 11, 1958 but was acclaimed on August 28, 1959, when the nomination deadline in the Conservative stronghold passed without any other candidates registering. Price owned a service station and restaurant in Actinolite, Ontario and was 38-years old at the time of his election. Hastings (provincial Electoral District)
Hastings ( ) is a large seaside town and borough in East Sussex on the south coast of England, east to the county town of Lewes and south east of London. The town gives its name to the Battle of Hastings, which took place to the north-west at Senlac Hill in 1066. It later became one of the medieval Cinque Ports. In the 19th century, it was a popular seaside resort, as the railway allowed tourists and visitors to reach the town.
