Harzhis
Harzhis ( hy, Հարժիս) is a village in the Tatev Municipality of the Syunik Province in Armenia, 15 km southwest of Goris, on the left side of the Vorotan River, on the plateau. The distance from Kapan - the center of the province is about 79 km. The height above sea level is about 1700-1730 m. Until 1968, the village was called Yaiji. With that name the settlement was included in the Zangezur uezd within the Elizavetpol Governorate of Russian Empire. Syunik Province
Syunik ( hy, Սյունիք, ) is the southernmost province of Armenia. It is bordered by the Vayots Dzor Province to the north, Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic exclave to the west, Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran to the south. Goris
Goris ( hy, Գորիս) is a town and the centre of the urban community of Goris, in Syunik Province at the south of Armenia. Located in the valley of the Goris (or Vararak) River, it is 254 km from the Armenian capital Yerevan and 67 km from the provincial capital Kapan. Goris is the second-largest city in Syunik in terms of population. During the 2011 census, it had a population of 20,591, down from 23,261 reported in the 2001 census. However, as per the 2016 official estimate, the population of Goris was 20,300. Goris is the seat of the Diocese of Syunik of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Vorotan (river)
The Vorotan (), or Bargushad () or Bazarchay ( az, Bazarçay), is a river in Transcaucasia that is the largest right tributary of the Hakari river. The river originates in the mountains of Azerbaijan's Kalbajar District and flows into Armenia's Syunik Province. It flows through Armenia for in a generally south-easterly direction. The river enters Azerbaijan again, flowing for through the districts of Qubadli and Zangilan. The lower section of the Hakari, from its confluence with the Vorotan until its confluence with the Aras river, is sometimes considered to be part of the Vorotan. Kapan
Kapan ( hy, Կապան) is a town in southeast Armenia, serving as the administrative center of the urban community of Kapan as well as the provincial capital of Syunik Province. It is located in the valley of the Voghji River and is on the northern slopes of Mount Khustup. According to the 2011 census, the population of Kapan was 43,190, a slight decline from 45,711 in the 2001 census. Zangezur Uezd
The Zangezur uezd was a county (''uezd'') of the Elizavetpol Governorate of the Russian Empire with its administrative center in Gerusy (present-day Goris) from 1868 until its formal abolition and partition between the Soviet republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan in 1921. The area of the Zangezur uezd corresponded to most of the contemporary Syunik province of Armenia, and Lachin, Gubadly, Zangilan, and Shusha districts of Azerbaijan.
