Harz Run
The Harz Run (german: Harzquerung) is a fun run and walking event in the Harz mountains of Germany that has been organised since the 1970s by the Wernigerode Skiing Club (''Skiklub Wernigerode 1911'') and takes place on the last Saturday of April. The main run is an ultra marathon which is long and crosses the Harz between Wernigerode and Nordhausen in a north-south direction. There is also a 25 km route from Wernigerode to Benneckenstein and a 28 km course from Benneckenstein to Nordhausen. From its start on the edge of the town of Wernigerode it initially climbs the Hilmersberg and then continues to the Zillierbach Reservoir. After 11.5 km the first drink stop is reached at Neue Hütte. The route forks at Lange at the 20 km point. Whilst the 25 km runners turn off right to Benneckenstein, the ultra marathon runners run straight ahead in a southerly direction. Sophienhof (Ilfeld)
Sophienhof is a village in the municipality of Ilfeld in the district of Nordhausen in the German federal state of Thuringia. Location Sophienhof is situated in the so-called Hohnstein Forest (''Hohnsteiner Forst''), that once belonged to the counts of Stolberg, in northwest Thuringia only a few kilometres away from the state borders with Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony. The village is only accessible by motor vehicles over a secondary road from Rothesütte or from the B 81 federal road between Hasselfelde and Ilfeld. In addition, several walking trails run from surrounding villages to Sophienhof. Sophienhof has a halt on the Harz Railway, which is located in the forest to the west outside the village. Neustadt/Harz
Neustadt/Harz is a village and a former municipality in the district of Nordhausen, in Thuringia, Germany. Since July 2018, it is part of the municipality Harztor. Culture and places of interest The area around Neustadt is rich in places of interest, which are all accessible on footpaths. Of the three castle ruins Hohnstein Castle, the oldest in the entire Harz, is the most significant. Six kilometers from the village is the recently renovated and protected monument of the Neustadt Reservoir (also often called the Nordhausen Reservoir). There is also the Gondelteich lake and a separate forest swimming pool. Nearby is the hill known as the Poppenberg (), where the High Harz begins. Poppenberg (Harz)
The Poppenberg is a tree-covered hill east of Ilfeld in the Harz mountains of Germany, at an elevation of 601 metres. Since 1897, there has been a steel lattice observation tower on the summit. The tower was built by the Nordhausen branch of the Harz Club and was named after Otto, Prince of Stolberg-Wernigerode. In good weather, it has an extensive view over the South Harz, the Goldene Aue and the Kyffhäuser. The Poppenberg is no. 92 in the system of check points in the Harzer Wandernadel network of walking trails. History Until 1932, the hill belonged to the Prussian Province of Hanover, but was then transferred to the Province of Saxony. Today, it lies in the free state of Thuringia and is the highest elevation in the Thuringian part of the Harz. Trautenstein
Trautenstein is a village in the borough of Oberharz am Brocken in the district of Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Trautenstein has 493 inhabitants . Formerly an independent municipality, it was merged into the town Hasselfelde in 2002, which was merged into Oberharz am Brocken in 2010. Geography The small climatic health resort lies in the valley of the Rappbode and at the southwestern end of the Rappbode Reservoir. South of the village is the ''Bärenhöhe'' ("Bear Heights"), also known as the '' Carlshaushöhe'', which is 626 metres high.
