Harry Cunningham (activist)
Harry Cunningham (1891–1938) was an early 20th century Irish-American activist. He held executive positions in several New York-based Irish-American cultural and political organizations, many of which were focused on mobilizing materiel support to the fight for an independent Irish republic. He was a close friend and confidant of John Devoy, long-time leader of the Clan-na-Gael organization, especially in Devoy’s later years as his health declined. Though active in many aspects of early 20th century New York Irish-American life, Cunningham is best known for saving John Holland’s ''Fenian Ram'', the world’s first functioning submarine and symbol of Irish-American ingenuity, from destruction in 1927. Harry Cunningham (born 6 December 1993) is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by the club with pick 93 overall in the 2012 Rookie draft, before being promoted to the senior list in 2012. Henry Cunningham (9 January 1898 – 17 September 1972), commonly known as Harry Cunningham and by the nickname Peerie, was a Scottish footballer who played as a forward, initially being deployed on the right wing or in a creative role but later recording a high scoring rate as a central striker. He spent his early years in junior football in Ayrshire before five seasons at Ayr United, then six at regional rivals Kilmarnock after Ayr were relegated from the top division in 1925. ''Silent Witness'' is a British crime drama television series produced by the BBC, which focuses on a team of forensic pathology experts and their investigations into various crimes. First broadcast in 1996, the series was created by Nigel McCrery, a former murder squad detective based in Nottingham. Twenty-five series of ''Silent Witness'' have been broadcast since 1996. Amanda Burton starred as primary character Dr. Sam Ryan before leaving the show during the eighth series. Henry Cunningham (c. 1678–1736), of Boquhan, Gorgunnock, Stirling, was a Scottish Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1709 to 1734. He was given the post of Governor of Jamaica, but died two months after landing there. A description of Cunningham appears in the introduction to Scott’s historical novel ‘’Rob Roy’’. Early life Cunningham was the only son of William Cunningham of Boquhan and his first wife Margaret Erskine, daughter of David Erskine, 2nd Lord Cardross.
