Harry Charles
Harry Charles (born 15 July 1999) is a British show jumping competitor. He represented Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo 2021, competing in individual jumping and team jumping. Charles replaced Holly Smith in the individual competition. In December, 2021 Harry won the Taittinger Ivy Stakes CI5* class individual jumping event at the London International Horse Show, staged at the ExCel Centre in London's Docklands, riding 15 year old gelding, Borsato (Contendro 1 x Nijinski). Holly Smith (born 14 March 1989) is a show jumper who competes for Great Britain. Smith was part of the British team at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina, as well as the bronze medal-winning team at the 2019 FEI European Championships in Rotterdam, both times riding Hearts Destiny or ''Ted'' as he was affectionate known before passing away in August 2020. Peter Charles, (born 1 January 1960) is an Irish-British equestrian who competes in the sport of show jumping. Originally a competitor for Great Britain, Charles changed nationalities to Irish in 1992. In 2007, he relinquished his status as an Irish rider and once again began representing Great Britain. He was in the British team which won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. Charles was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism. The team show jumping event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 6–7 August 2021 at the Baji Koen. Like all other equestrian events, the jumping competition was open-gender, with both male and female athletes competing in the same division. 60 riders (20 teams of 3) from 20 nations competed. The event was won by team Sweden, which included Peder Fredricson, the silver medalist in the individual event. The United states were second, and Belgium third. In the final, after two jumpers from every team completed, all eight team were still in the competition, France was leading with two penalties, and Sweden, the United States, and Belgium were all tied for the second with four penalties each.
