Harris George Rogers
Major Harris George Rogers (August 31, 1891 – July 28, 1977) was a farmer and a soldier in both World War I and World War II and served as a Canadian federal politician from 1958 to 1962. Military career First World War Rogers joined the 175th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1916 and served overseas as a Lieutenant with the 31st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force from 1916 to 1918. He was wounded twice (Passchendale and Last hundred days) and earned the Military Cross: ''"He made many daylight reconnaissances and brought back valuable information under heavy fire. During an attack on a village he led his company with gallantry and skill driving back the enemy outposts with heavy casualties, and the village was eventually captured. He was finally severely wounded by machine-gun fire. He set a very fine example to his men.''" The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (RCASC) was an administrative and transport corps of the Canadian Army. The Canadian Army Service Corps was established in the Non-Permanent Active Militia in 1901 and in the Permanent Active Militia in 1903. The Canadian Permanent Army Service Corps was redesignated The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on 3 Nov 1919. 1962 Canadian Federal Election
The 1962 Canadian federal election was held on June 18, 1962, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 25th Parliament of Canada. The governing Progressive Conservative (PC) Party won a plurality of seats in this election, and its majority government was reduced to a minority government. When the election was called, PC Prime Minister John Diefenbaker had governed for four years with the then-largest majority in the House of Commons in Canadian history. This election reduced the PCs to a tenuous minority government as a result of economic difficulties such as high unemployment and a slumping Canadian dollar, as well as unpopular decisions such as the cancellation of the Avro Arrow. The 1958 Canadian federal election was held to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 24th Parliament of Canada on March 31, 1958, just nine months after the 23rd election.
