Harris Academy Battersea is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located near Battersea Park in the Battersea area of the London Borough of Wandsworth, England. History It was first established as Battersea Park School in 1986 and when it gained specialist status as a Technology College it was renamed Battersea Technology College. The school was awarded a second specialist status as a Performing Arts College in 2007, and changed back to its original name in 2008. In 2009 it became a foundation school. In September 2014 Battersea Park School converted to academy status and was renamed Harris Academy Battersea. The school is part of the Harris Federation. Ofsted inspected the school in 2018 and judged it 'outstanding'. An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. Battersea
Battersea is a large district in south London, part of the London Borough of Wandsworth, England. It is centred southwest of Charing Cross and extends along the south bank of the River Thames. It includes the Battersea Park. History Battersea is mentioned in the few surviving Anglo-Saxon geographical accounts as ''Badrices īeg'' meaning "Badric's Island" and later "Patrisey". As with many former parishes beside tidal flood plains the lowest land was reclaimed for agriculture by draining marshland and building culverts for streams.
