Harold Brown (Tuskegee Airman)
Harold H. Brown (August 19, 1924 – January 12, 2023) was a U.S. Army Air Force officer who served during World War II as a combat fighter pilot with the 332nd Fighter Group, best known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Brown's P-51C aircraft was shot down in the European Theatre of World War II and he became a prisoner of war. Early life Brown was born August 19, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In his autobiography ''Keep your Airspeed Up'' Brown says he developed a passion for flying as a teen. Brown claims to have read everything he could at the local library, about airplanes. He claims that two major influences on his passion for flying were the book ''The Life of an Army Corps Cadet: Randolph field, west Point of the Air'', and a 1938 movie called The Dawn Patrol. He saved up $35 for flying lessons in a Piper J-3 Cub and at $7 a lesson he ran out of money before completing the program. Harold Brown (Royal Navy Officer)
Vice-Admiral Sir Harold Arthur Brown (19 March 1878 – 15 February 1968) was an English engineer who served with the Royal Navy. History Brown was born in Southery, Norfolk, the son of farmer Joseph John Brown of Esher, Surrey and Caroline Martha Brown. Brown joined the Royal Navy in 1894 as a trainee engineer at the Devonport Dockyards. In 1899, he qualified as a Probationary Assistant Engineer, promoted to engineer lieutenant in 1900. In 1912, he was promoted to engineer lieutenant-commander, engineer commander in 1917 and engineer captain in 1924. He served in Washington as Assistant Naval Attache 1921–1925. In 1930 he was appointed engineer rear-admiral and in 1932 was appointed vice-admiral and Engineer-in-Chief of the Fleet. He served as Director-General of Munitions Production, The War Office and retired in 1936. In 1910, he married Marion Lillie Macbean, daughter of Col. Forbes Macbean (1857–1919). Harold Godart Brown (15 August 1919 – 14 November 2008) was the first head of film preservation at the British Film Institute's archive. He was appointed by the archive's founding curator, Ernest Lindgren, upon its creation in 1935, and remained in the post until his retirement in 1984. Biography Born in Walthamstow, the son of a maker of nautical instruments, Brown joined the British Film Institute (BFI) as an office assistant aged 15 in 1935, two years after it was established. Formally appointed as the BFI's first film preservation officer in 1951, he was a largely self-taught archivist. In his role at the BFI, Brown made a major contribution to the science of film preservation.
