Harinder Singh
Major Harinder Singh ( – 31 August 1972) was an Indian politician in Punjab who served as Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly from 1969 to 1971, and also as Minister of Revenue and Industry in Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir's cabinet from 1966 to 1967. He also remained the member of Central Legislative Assembly by winning election in 1945. Amritsar District
Amritsar district is one of the twenty three districts that make up the Indian state of Punjab. Located in the Majha region of Punjab, the city of Amritsar is the headquarters of this district. As of 2011, it is the second most populous district of Punjab (out of 23), after Ludhiana. History During British Rule Amritsar District was part of Lahore Division and was administratively subdivided into 3 tehsils namely - Amritsar, Ajnala and Tarn Taran. However, as part of the partition of India in 1947 Amritsar district was separated from the rest of the division and awarded to India. Gurnam Singh
Gurnam Singh (25 February 1899 – 31 May 1973) was an Indian politician and the Chief Minister of Punjab from 8 March 1967 to 25 November 1967, and again between 17 February 1969 to 27 March 1970. He was the first Shiromani Akali Dal Chief minister of Punjab. His ministry fell due to defection of Lachhman Singh Gill, who became the next Chief Minister with the support of the Indian National Congress. He died in an air crash in Delhi on 31 May 1973. Early life Singh was born in Narangwal, Ludhiana on 25 February 1899 in a Grewal Jatt family. He graduated from the Forman Christian College, Lahore. He captained the hockey team of Punjab University. Law career Singh practiced Law in Lyallpur (Present day Faisalabad, Pakistan). Later he served as the president of the Bar Association, there. Jaswinder Singh Brar was an Indian politician and was Cabinet minister of Punjab in Prakash Singh Badal ministry (1977–80). Jaswinder Singh Brar was a Punjabi politician who became a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly twice by winning an assembly election in 1972 and then in 1977 from Kotkapura Assembly Constituency on the ticket of Shiromani Akali Dal. Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir
Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir (15 January 1899 – 18 January 1976) was an Indian politician and Punjabi language writer. He was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1 November 1966 to 8 March 1967. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in Punjabi, given by Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters in 1978 for his short story collection, ''Urvar Par'' and was posthumously decorated with Padma Vibhushan, the second highest Indian civilian award given by Government of India. The Central Legislative Assembly was the lower house of the Imperial Legislative Council, the legislature of British India. It was created by the Government of India Act 1919, implementing the Montagu–Chelmsford Reforms. It was also sometimes called the Indian Legislative Assembly and the Imperial Legislative Assembly. 1945 Indian General Election
General elections were held in British India in December 1945 to elect members of the Central Legislative Assembly and the Council of State. The Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party, winning 59 of the 102 elected seats. The Muslim League won all Muslim constituencies, but failed to win any other seats. Of the 13 remaining seats, 8 went to Europeans, 3 to independents, and 2 to Akali candidates in the Sikh constituencies of Punjab. This election coupled with the provincial one in 1946 proved to be a strategic victory for Jinnah and the partitionists.
