Haribhai Deokaran High School (HDHS) is a public Marathi and Semi-English Medium School in Solapur, Maharashtra, India. HDHS consists of a high school from Grade V to Grade X and an Arts, Commerce and Science Junior college. The high school has a Primary School campus and is called as Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya (Devanagari: नुतन मराठी विद्यालय). History The school was founded by the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, Pune in 1918. It was named after the ''Haribhai Deokaran Trading Company'', whose owner Hirakaka Gandhi had donated 27000 to establish the school. Shikshan Prasarak Mandali
The Shikshan Prasarak Mandali, Pune, is one of the private educational societies in Maharashtra. It was established in 1883 with the aim of imparting western education in Marathi language but without any help from the then British government. The Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya (NuMaVi) was established by this society in the same year in the memory of Marathi writer and scholar Vishnushastri Chiplunkar. In 1916 it went on to establish the New Poona College (later named as Sir Parshurambhau College) for arts. Lokmanya Tilak, Gopalkrishna Gokhale, N. C. Polly Umrigar
Pahlan Ratanji "Polly" Umrigar (28 March 1926 – 7 November 2006) was an Indian cricketer. He played in Indian cricket team (1948- 1962) and played first-class cricket for Bombay and Gujarat. Umrigar played mainly as a middle-order batsman but also bowling occasional medium pace and off spin. He captained India in eight Test matches from 1955 to 1958. When he retired in 1962, he had played in most Tests (59), scored most Test runs (3,631), and recorded most Test centuries (12), than any other Indian player.
