Harald Bjerke
Harald Borgen Bjerke (4 March 1860 – 1 April 1926) was a Norwegian businessperson. He was born in Kristiania. From 1895 to 1912 he was the managing director of Mandalsgatens Høvleri. From 1910 to 1912 he also chaired the Norwegian Employers' Confederation. From 1918 to 1926 he was the Director-General of Norsk Hydro. He was also a supervisory council member of Elektrisk Bureau Elektrisk Bureau or EB was a Norwegian manufacturer of telecommunication equipment. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. is the largest Norwegian biographical encyclopedia. The first edition (NBL1) was issued between 1921 and 1983, including 19 volumes and 5,100 articles. Elektrisk Bureau or EB was a Norwegian manufacturer of telecommunication equipment. It was founded in 1882 and lasted until 1993 when it became part of Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). The background was that Söderberg, who had started a telephone union in Christiania, felt that Bell System had been charging too high prices. In 1885 the company was made limited and a year later Akers Mekaniske Verksted became the largest owner. EB became the largest domestic producer of telephone systems as well as export. Sam Eyde
Samuel Eyde (29 October 1866 – 21 June 1940) was a Norwegian engineer and industrialist. He was the founder of both Norsk Hydro and Elkem. Personal life Eyde was born in Arendal in Aust-Agder, Norway. He was a son of ship-owner Samuel Eyde (1819–1902) and his wife Elina Christine Amalie Stephansen (1829–1906). He was a first cousin of Alf Scott-Hansen on the maternal side. In August 1895 he married Countess Ulla Mörner (1873–1961), but the marriage was dissolved in 1912. In February 1913 he married actress Elly Simonsen (1885–1960). Career Eyde studied engineering in Berlin where he graduated in 1891. He started his career in Hamburg, working with the railways where he planned new lines, bridges and stations. In 1897 he started the engineering firm Gleim & Eyde with his previous boss from Hamburg. Axel Aubert
Axel Aubert (11 December 1873 – 16 December 1943) was a Norwegian chemical engineer who served as Director-General of Norsk Hydro. Biography He was born in Kristiania (now Oslo, Norway). He was the son of Otto Benjamin Andreas Aubert (1841–98) and Hilda Thaulow (1846–1923). After first studies at the Oslo Technical College, he then studied engineering at the University of Berlin and earned a doctorate in chemistry at the University of Basel in 1895. He became the managing director of Engene Dynamitfabrik and Norsk Sprængstofindustri. In 1926 he was hired as Director-General (CEO) of Norsk Hydro. In 1940, while Norway was still neutral in World War II, Aubert was contacted by agents from French military intelligence regarding Norsk Hydro's production of heavy water (deuterium oxide) at its Vemork hydroelectric plant.
