Happy As Lazzaro
''Happy as Lazzaro'' ( it, Lazzaro felice) is a 2018 Italian drama film written and directed by Alice Rohrwacher. It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where Rohrwacher won the award for Best Screenplay. Plot On an estate called Inviolata, isolated since 1977, 54 farmhands work on a tobacco farm in a sharecropping arrangement, where they are constantly in debt and thus unpaid. The farm is run in a feudal manner by the notorious Marchioness Alfonsina De Luna, "Queen of Cigarettes". Lazzaro is a worker on the farm who dutifully follows every command given to him by the Marchioness, her son, Tancredi, and the estate manager. Tancredi befriends Lazzaro and decides to fake his own kidnapping to aggravate his mother and get some of her money. Alice Rohrwacher
Alice Rohrwacher (, ; born 29 December 1980) is an Italian film director, editor and screenwriter. Her film '' Le pupille'' was nominated for Oscar in 2023 in short film categories. Early life Rohrwacher was born in Fiesole, in Tuscany, to an Italian mother and German father. She spent her youth in the village of Castel Giorgio, where her mother was born and her father Reinhard worked as a beekeeper. She is the sister of the Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher. She studied literature and philosophy at the University of Turin, then specialized in screenwriting at the Holden School in Turin. Tommaso Ragno is an Italian stage and film actor. Biography Early life and education Tommaso Ragno was born on 1 June 1967 in Vieste, a coastal town in the province of Foggia, as the eldest of two children. His family, mainly from Apulia and on the grand-maternal side from ex-Yugoslavia, moved to Piacenza when he was two years old. Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average).
