Haparandabanan
The Haparanda Line ( sv, Haparandabanan) is a long railway line between Boden, Sweden, Boden and Haparanda in Sweden. There is a long section from Haparanda to Tornio, Torneå, which is on the Finnish side of the Finland–Sweden border. The line is the only Swedish railway to the Finland, Finnish border. The Single track (rail), single track line was used exclusively by freight trains between 1992 and 2021, during which time it was necessary to use buses from Luleå to the Haparanda bus station, with onward connections to Kemi in Finland. Passenger service began again on the 1st of April, 2021, operated by Norrtåg, Vy Norrtåg. History The railway from Boden to Haparanda was built in several sections over the course of 17 years. The first segment to be completed was Buddbyn to Niemisel in 1900, followed by the segment Niemisel to Morjärv in 1902. North Bothnia Line
The North Bothnia Line ( sv, Norrbotniabanan) is a planned high-speed railway line between Umeå Central Station and Luleå Central Station in Sweden. The line would be long and be a northern extension of the Bothnia Line, which opened in 2010. The planned extension is expected to improve accessibility between larger cities along Sweden's coast and handle 1.6 million passengers per year. Currently, the area is served by the Main Line Through Upper Norrland, which is located inland and with branch lines connected to various towns along the coast. To the north, the line will connect with the Main Line Through Upper Norrland and onwards along the Haparanda Line to connect to the Barents Region and the Finnish railway network.
