Hanspeter Stocker
Hanspeter Stocker (* 23 November 1936) is a retired Swiss footballer who played for FC Basel. He played during the 1960s mainly in the position as defender. Football career Stocker played his early football by FC Concordia Basel. In 1960 he transferred to FC Basel, Jenö Vincze was the trainer at that time. He played for Basel for eight seasons. During this time Basel won the Swiss Cup twice, in 1962–63 and again in 1966–67. On 15 April, 1963 the Wankdorf Stadium hosted the Cup Final and Basel played against favorites Grasshopper Club Zürich. Two goals after half time, one by Heinz Blumer and the second from Otto Ludwig gave Basel a 2–0 victory and their third Cup win in their history. Stocker was member of the team on that day. A well-documented curiosity was the fact that during the winter break of their 1963–64 season the team travelled on a world tour. Helmut Benthaus (born 5 June 1935) is a German former association football, football player and coach. He spent his best playing days at Westfalia Herne and his best coaching days at FC Basel. Early career Born in Herne, Germany, Herne, Benthaus played youth football and started his professional career at Westfalia Herne in 1958. Overview There were 14 teams contesting in the 1966–67 Nationalliga A and Basel finished the seasons as champions just one point clear of both FC Zürich in second position and FC Lugano who finished third. Basel won 16 of the 26 games, drawing eight, losing twice, and they scored 60 goals conceding just 20. FC Moutier finished in last position and were relegated. FC Winterthur and FC La Chaux-de-Fonds finished level on points and thus played a relegation play-out. La Chaux-de-Fonds won 3–1 and Winterthur were also relegated. Basel also won the Swiss Cup. Walter Baumann (born 21 July 1942) is a Swiss former footballer who played in the 1960s. He played mainly as a forward, but also as a defender. Football career Baumann joined Basel's first team during their 1962–63 season under trainer Jiří Sobotka. On 15 April 1963 the Wankdorf Stadium hosted the Cup Final and Basel played against favorites Grasshopper Club. Two goals after half time, one by Heinz Blumer and the second from Otto Ludwig gave Basel a 2–0 victory and their third Cup win in the club's history. Baumann was not in the team that played, but in the squad. Peter Füri
Peter Füri (9 October 1937 – 11 May 2015) was a Swiss football player and manager, who played during the 1950s and 1960s. He died on 11 May 2015 at his home in Muttenz due to heart failure. Füri was born and brought up in Kleinbasel a quarter of Basel on the right hand side of the Rhine. He started his football at the small local club FC St. Clara and later joined the youth teams of FC Basel. During his active career Füri first played as a striker for FC Concordia Basel and later as a defender for FC La Chaux-de-Fonds and FC Basel. 1963–64 FC Basel Season
The 1963–64 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 70th season in their existence. It was their 18th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion in the 1945–46 season. They played their home games either in their old Landhof Stadium or in their new St. Jakob Stadium. Lucien Schmidlin was club chairman for the second year running. Bruno Michaud
Bruno Michaud (14 October 1935 — 1 November 1997) was a Swiss footballer and manager who played as a defender mainly for FC Basel and the Swiss national football team. Club career Michaud started his football in the youth teams of Basel. He was brought up to the first team as Béla Sárosi was coach. He transferred for one and a half years to FC Lausanne-Sport, but returned for the second half of the 1959–60 season after Jenő Vincze became Basel's new coach. He played for Basel for thirteen seasons and won the Swiss Cup twice and the championship three times under coaches Georges Sobotka and Helmut Benthaus. Jiří Sobotka
Jiří Sobotka (also known as Georges Sobotka; 6 June 1911 – 20 May 1994) was a Czech football player and manager. He played internationally for Czechoslovakia. Career Sobotka played for Czechoslovakia national football team (23 caps, 8 goals) and participated at the 1934 FIFA World Cup when Czechoslovakia came in second. He played for Slavia Prague, Hajduk Split (winning the Banovina of Croatia first league) and FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. During his period in Split, he played 36 league matches scoring 17 goals in the 1939-40 and 1940-41 seasons.
