The Hansboro–Cartwright Border Crossing connects the towns of Hansboro, North Dakota and Cartwright, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. Hansboro is a city in Towner County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 15 at the 2020 census. History Hansboro was founded in 1905 when the railroad was extended to that point. The city was named for Henry C. Hansbrough, a North Dakota legislator. A post office was established at Hansboro in 1905, and remained in operation until 1967. North Dakota Highway 4 (ND 4) is a north–south state highway in northern North Dakota, connecting U.S. Route 281 (US 281) and ND 5 near Rocklake to Manitoba Highway 5 at the Canada–US border. Route description ND 4 begins at a four-way intersection with concurrent highways US 281 and ND 5 along a roadway named 61st Avenue. The highway continues north through sparsely populated Armourdale as a two-lane undivided highway intersecting County Route 4 in Hansboro before turning east at 108th Street and then returning to a northerly direction until its end at the Canada–US border. Manitoba Highway 5
Provincial Trunk Highway 5 (PTH 5) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The highway starts at the Hansboro–Cartwright Border Crossing on the Canada–United States border and ends at the Saskatchewan boundary west of Roblin. Besides Roblin, it passes through the communities of Cartwright, Glenboro, Carberry, Neepawa, McCreary, Ste. Rose Du Lac, Grandview, and Gilbert Plains along its route. The highway, in a section concurrent with PTH 10, bypasses the City of Dauphin. (PTH 5A / 10A does run through Dauphin.) The segment of PTH 5 between PTH 10 and Ste. Rose Du Lac is part of the Northern Woods and Water Route. Further south, PTH 5 is also the main route through Spruce Woods Provincial Park between Glenboro and Carberry. Cartwright is an unincorporated urban community in the Cartwright – Roblin Municipality within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held village status prior to January 1, 2015. It was originally incorporated as a village on December 31, 1947. History Situated along the Badger Creek, the original location of Cartwright (also known as the Badger, or Old Cartwright) was established in 1879 by pioneers following the Boundary Commission Trail. Old Cartwright began on two townsites, one owned by P.C. McKibbin, the other by J.C. Waugh. The two men admired Sir Richard Cartwright and agreed to name their communities "Cartwright." Waugh's land, being directly on the Boundary Commission Trail, became the area truly considered Cartwright. Towner County, North Dakota
Towner County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population is 2,162. Its county seat is Cando. It is south of the Canada–US border with Manitoba. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on March 8, 1883, with areas partitioned from Cavalier and Rolette counties. It was named for Oscar M. Towner (1842–1897), a businessman and member of the 15th territorial legislature. The county organization was not completed at that time, and the county was attached to Pembina County for judicial and administrative purposes. That lasted until January 24, 1884, when the county organization was effected, and its attachment to Pembina was dissolved. However, on January 26, 1889, the county was attached to Ramsey County for judicial and administrative purposes. This arrangement only lasted a few months. Cartwright–Roblin Municipality is a rural municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History The municipality was created on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Roblin (2011 population 932) and the Village of Cartwright (2011 population 308). It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated these amalgamations in order for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. The former Rural Municipality of Roblin in the Canadian province of Manitoba was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on November 15, 1902.
