Hans Wright
Hans Wright (29 December 1854 – 3 December 1925) was a Danish architect. He served as city architect in Copenhagen from 1904 to 1925. Early life and education Wright was born in Helsingør, the son of ship-owner and major Albert Wright and Wigoline Jensine Margrethe Beck. He went to school in Gelsingør and then moved to Copenhagen where he apprenticed as a carpenter and studied at Copenhagen Technical College until 1875. He then enrolled at the Roydal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in June 1881. Career Wright initially worked for Hos H. Chr. Hansen, Vilhelm Friederichsenm Johannes Emil Gnudtzmann and Johan Daniel Herholdt. He worked for Copenhagen Municipality from 1884 and from 1886 under city architect Ludvig Fenger. Hellerup
Hellerup () is a very affluent district of Gentofte Municipality in the suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. The most urban part of the district is centred on Strandvejen and is bordered by Østerbro to the south and the Øresund to the east. It comprises Tuborg Havn, the redeveloped brewery site of Tuborg Breweries, with the Waterfront Shopping Center, a marina and the headquarters of several large companies. Other parts of the district consist of single family detached homes. Local landmarks include the science centre Experimentarium and the art Øregaard Museum. Sjællandsgade Bad
Sjællandsgade () is a street in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Nørrebrogade in the southwest to Tagensvej in the northeast. A short section of the street, between Prinsesse Charlottes Gade and Stevnsgade, has been closed to traffic and is now also known as Guldberg Byplads. It is surrounded by one of two branches of Guldberg School (formerly Sjællandsgade School), Simeon's Church and Sjællandsgade Public Baths. The last part of the street follows the northwest side of De Gamles By. History The oldest section of the street, between Nørrebrogade and Prinsesse Charlottes Gade, was initially called Thranesvej after merchant L. E. Thrane who owned a property at the site. The name of the street was in 1885 changed to Sjællandsgade. City engineer Charles Ambt created a masterplan for redevelopment of the area east of Prinsesse Charlottes Gade in 1899. Amagerbrogade
Amagerbrogade is the main shopping street and thoroughfare of the part of Copenhagen, Denmark that is located on the island of Amager . It begins at the end of the causeway which connects Amager to Christianshavn and the city centre on the other side of the harbour, and runs south until it reaches the municipal border with Tårnby where it continues as Amager Landevej. The street marks the border between Amager Vest and Amager Øst, two of the ten official districts of Copenhagen. Amagerbrogade arose when the country road leading in and out of Copenhagen's Amager Gate was urbanized towards the end of the 18th century after the city's old fortifications had been decommissioned and the no-built zone outside them released. Niels Hemmingsens Gade
Niels Hemmingsens Gade is a street in the Old Town of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from the western part of Amagertorv in the south to Skindergade in the north and passes Gråbrødretorv on the way. The Church of the Holy Ghost is located in the street. The street is named after the 16th-century Lutheran theologian Niels Hemmingsen. History The street has existed since the Middle Ages but was formerly known under different names. The street section from to Valkendorfsgade was called (Little Holy Ghost Street) after the adjacent church. It was a very narrow alley. The inclusion of "Little" in the name distinguished it from ("Large Holy Ghost Street") as was then called. Vedbæk
Vedbæk is a wealthy suburban neighbourhood on the coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It belongs to Rudersdal Municipality and has merged with the town of Hørsholm to the north. The area has been inhabited for at least 7,000 years, as evidenced by the discovery of a Mesolithic cemetery of the Ertebølle culture. By the 16th century, there were a few small farms and fishermen's houses on the site and in the 18th century, well-to-do townsfolk from Copenhagen started to build country houses in the area. After a paddle steamer began to call at Vedbæk on its journey from Copenhagen to Helsingør, there was an influx of visitors. There are a number of large country houses and a historic church.
