Hans Werner Aufrecht
Hans Werner Aufrecht (born 28 December 1938 in Großaspach, Germany) was in 1967 along with Erhard Melcher one of the founders of AMG Engine Production and Development, a current subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. When the company and the name "AMG" was acquired by Mercedes-Benz in the late 1990s, he used his initials for the name of Mercedes' official racing team, HWA Team. In 1999, the first car raced under that team name was the ill-fated Mercedes-Benz CLR. Aspach, Baden-Württemberg
Aspach is a community in the Rems-Murr-Kreis in Germany, near Backnang. Aspach is made up of four, formerly independent villages: Großaspach, Kleinaspach, Allmersbach and Rietenau. In 1972, the 4 villages joined forces under the name Aspach. The villages were founded between 950BC and 1150BC. Rietenau is home to natural springs and used to be a popular Spa until early 1900. Water from Rietenau is still bottled today. The main village, Großaspach, is the birthplace of Hans Werner Aufrecht, co-founder of AMG Engine Production and Development, more commonly known as AMG, as well as the meaning of the "G" in the name. Mercedes-Benz CLR
The Mercedes-Benz CLR was a set of racing cars developed for Mercedes-Benz through a collaboration with in-house tuning division Mercedes-AMG and motorsports specialists HWA GmbH. Designed to meet Le Mans Grand Touring Prototype (LMGTP) regulations, the CLRs were intended to compete in sports car events during 1999, most notably at the 24 Hours of Le Mans which Mercedes had last won in . It was the third in a series of sports cars raced by Mercedes, following the CLK GTRs and CLK LMs that had debuted in 1997 and 1998 respectively. Like its predecessors the CLR retained elements of Mercedes-Benz's production cars, including a V8 engine loosely based on a design used in some models as well as bodywork based on the Mercedes-Benz C208, CLK and Mercedes-Benz C215, CL-Classes. The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters) is a grand touring car series sanctioned by ITR e.V. who have been affiliated to the DMSB-FIA since 1984. HWA Team
HWA Team, also known as HWA RACELAB, is the auto racing team of HWA AG, a German company based in Affalterbach, that also develops and builds vehicles and components for Mercedes-AMG race cars. It is named after founder Hans-Werner Aufrecht. History HWA was responsible for managing the AMG Mercedes team in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). HWA AG was founded in 1999, and takes its name from Hans-Werner Aufrecht, who established AMG in 1967. Towards the end of 1998 Aufrecht sold a majority interest in AMG to DaimlerChrysler AG.
