Hans Hammarskiöld
Hans Arvid Hammarskiöld (17 May 1925 – 12 November 2012) was a Swedish professional photographer. He was active in most genres—for many years he worked as an industrial photographer, but was especially noted for his portraits. Career Hammarskiöld was born in 1925 in Stockholm. His breakthrough as a professional photographer came in the 1950s when he worked all over the world. In 1955 his work, along with that of his wife Caroline Hebbe, was selected by Edward Steichen for the world-touring Museum of Modern Art exhibition and book The Family of Man, seen by 9 million visitors. Hammarskiöld worked 1954-1956 for British ''Vogue (magazine), Vogue''. Hammarskiöld was the last surviving member of the group ''Tio fotografer'' (Ten Photographers), which formed in 1958 and was influential in Swedish photography for decades as the illustrations agency ''Tiofoto''. Claes Oldenburg
Claes Oldenburg (January 28, 1929 – July 18, 2022) was a Swedish-born American sculptor best known for his public art installations, typically featuring large replicas of everyday objects. Another theme in his work is soft sculpture versions of everyday objects. Many of his works were made in collaboration with his wife, Coosje van Bruggen, who died in 2009; they had been married for 32 years. Oldenburg lived and worked in New York City. Early life and education Claes Oldenburg was born on January 28, 1929, in Stockholm, the son of Gösta Oldenburg and his wife Sigrid Elisabeth née Lindforss. Hammarskjöld Family
The Hammarskjöld family, also known as Hammarskiöld family, is a Swedish noble family, enrolled in ''Riddarhuset'' (English: " House of Nobility") with the number of 135. Background The founder of the family was Peder Mikaelsson (c. 1560–1646), the Governor of Borgholm Castle. He fought for King Sigismund at Stångebro in 1598 and was knighted in 1610 with the name of ''Hammarskiöld''. He was married twice. His first wife was Beata Körning, daughter of the ''slottslov'' ("castle commander") Erik Matsson Körning and Kjerstin Hand. His second wife, a cousin of Beata, was Christina Stjerna, the daughter of Peder Månsson Stjerna (number 77 in ''Riddarhuset'') and Karin Hand. Lidingö
Lidingö (), also known in its definite form Lidingön and as Lidingölandet, is an island in the inner Stockholm archipelago, northeast of Stockholm, Sweden. National Portrait Gallery (Sweden)
The National Portrait Gallery () is a museum and portrait gallery located at Gripsholm Castle at Mariefred in Södermanland County, Sweden. It contains a collection of portraits of prominent Swedes. History The collection was first established by King Gustaf Vasa who had portraits hung in the newly built Gripsholm Castle. The National Portrait Gallery acquired the status of a national portrait gallery during the reign of King Gustav III. The collection also began to be expanded with non-royal persons. The National Portrait Gallery was officially founded in 1822 with over 4000 works that trace the portrait art changes from the 1500s to the present. Nationalmuseum has been responsible for the portrait collection since 1860. This arrangement has been periodically extended. Nationalmuseum is the List of national galleries, national gallery of fine arts of Sweden, located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm. Karl Gunnar Vougt Pontus Hultén (21 June 1924 – 26 October 2006) was a Swedish art collector and museum director. Pontus Hultén is regarded as one of the most distinguished museum professionals of the twentieth century. He was the pioneering former head of the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm and in the 1970s he was invited to participate in the creation of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, where he was the first director of the Musée National d'Art Moderne (MNAM) in 1974–1981. Georg Oddner
Georg Oddner (17 October 1923 – 7 October 2007) was one of Sweden's greatest photographers from the 20th century. Oddner was a jazz musician and studying advertising in the 1940s when he first came into contact with photography through John Melin, art director at Svenska Telegrambyrån in Malmö, the largest advertising agency in Scandinavia. From there, Oddner began working a variety of advertising jobs, including industry, architecture, and clothing, as well as for SAS. In the mid-1950s Oddner traveled to California, South America, the Soviet Union, and the far east. During these travels he was able to pursue photography for his own purposes.
