Hans Dichgans (16 May 1907 – 21 March 1980) was a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and former member of the German Bundestag The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. Life In 1954 he became a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and from 1955 was chairman of the CDU district group Lohausen-Stockum in Düsseldorf. Dichgans was a member of the German Bundestag from 17 October 1961 to 22 September 1972 and was always elected via the state list of the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1961 to 1970 he was a member of the European Parliament. Elberfeld is a municipal subdivision of the German city of Wuppertal; it was an independent town until 1929. History The first official mentioning of the geographic area on the banks of today's Wupper River as "''elverfelde''" was in a document of 1161. Etymologically, ''elver'' is derived from the old Low German word for "river." (See etymology of the name of the German Elbe River; cf. North Germanic ''älv''.)
