Rajaton is a Finnish a cappella ensemble, founded in Helsinki in 1997. The Finnish word ''rajaton'' means "boundless", to indicate the breadth of their repertoire, from sacred classical to near Europop. Rajaton performs primarily in Finland but also tours around Europe and the rest of the world, having performed in over 25 countries. In 2005, Rajaton album sales reached 100,000 worldwide. They have earned eight gold records in total, with ''Rajaton Sings ABBA'' reaching platinum (30,000) and ''Joulu'' reaching double platinum (60,000). Lahti Symphony Orchestra
The Lahti Symphony Orchestra (''Sinfonia Lahti'') is a Finnish orchestra, based in the city of Lahti. The orchestra is resident at the Sibelius Hall. The orchestra was founded in 1910, and placed under the control of the Lahti municipality in 1949. History Past chief conductors of the orchestra have included Ulf Söderblom (1985-1988). Osmo Vänskä became principal guest conductor of the orchestra in 1985, and chief conductor in 1988. During his tenure, he and the orchestra have achieved wide acclaim, particularly with performances and recordings of Sibelius. Other recordings by Vänskä and the orchestra include music of Robert Kajanus and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Queen (band)
Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970 by Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals) and Roger Taylor (Queen drummer), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), later joined by John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and Heavy metal music, heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile (band), Smile. ''Maa'' is the eighth album of Finland, Finnish a cappella ensemble Rajaton released in 2007 in celebration of the ensemble's 10th anniversary. ''Maa'', is a Finnish word which, depending on context, can be translated to mean ''country'', ''earth'', ''land'', ''ground'' or ''soil''. The name is in reference to the 'back to the roots' nature of the album - Rajaton's debut album, ''Nova (Rajaton album), Nova'', similarly consisted of songs composed to Finnish poetry. A new a cappella version of the Jean Sibelius orchestral piece ''Valse triste (Sibelius), Valse triste'' is also included, marking the 50th anniversary of his death. Kevät is an album by Finnish a cappella ensemble Rajaton, released in 2005. The word ''kevät'' means "spring" in Finnish. This Finnish pop album is decidedly different from the previous, more traditional albums. In each of the songs, one member acts as the soloist, with the other five as back up (except for Nälkäiset Linnut, which features two leads). The album peaked at #3 in the Finnish charts and sold gold within six weeks of release.
