Hannah Winkler
Hannah Shameema Winkler (born 5 November 1985) is a South African politician. She is a member of parliament for the Democratic Alliance and the party's former shadow deputy minister of environment, forestry and fisheries. Education Winkler has an honours degree in politics. Political career Winkler joined the Democratic Alliance as a researcher and media officer. For the 2019 general election, she was the party's campaign manager in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. Parliamentary career In the build-up to the 2019 general election, Winkler was placed eighth on the DA's regional list, 28th on the party's provincial list and 76th on the party's national list. She was elected to the National Assembly on the regional list and became a member of parliament on 22 May 2019. Cheryl Phillips (politician)
Cheryl Phillips (born 23 February 1962) is a South African politician from the North West who has served in the National Assembly since May 2019. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she has been the Shadow Deputy Minister of the Standing Committee on the Auditor General since April 2023. She was the Shadow Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy from June 2019 to December 2020 and the Shadow Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries from December 2020 until April 2023. Phillips had previously served as a ward councillor in Rustenburg. Political career Phillips campaigned for the "Yes" vote in the 1992 referendum. She moved to Rustenburg in 2001 and joined the Democratic Party. She later joined the Democratic Alliance. In 2014, she was appointed to her ward's committee. The Democratic Alliance (, DA) is a South African list of political parties in South Africa, political party and the official opposition to the ruling African National Congress (ANC). 2019 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on 8 May 2019 to elect a new President, National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. These were the sixth elections held since the end of apartheid in 1994 and determined who would become the next President of South Africa. Incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa led the ruling African National Congress, with the party attempting to retain its majority status and secure Ramaphosa a full term in office as president; his predecessor, Jacob Zuma, resigned from office on 14 February 2018. Zuma was already ineligible for a third term in office as the South African Constitution limits a president to serve a maximum of two five-year terms. eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality is a metropolitan municipality created in 2000, that includes the city of Durban, South Africa and surrounding towns. eThekwini is one of the 11 districts of KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. The majority of its 3,442,361 people speak Zulu. It was formed from seven formerly independent local councils and tribal land. The National Assembly is the directly elected house of the Parliament of South Africa, located in Cape Town, Western Cape. It consists of four hundred members who are elected every five years using a party-list proportional representation system where half of the members are elected proportionally from nine provincial lists and the remaining half from national lists so as to restore proportionality. The National Assembly is presided over by a Speaker, assisted by a Deputy Speaker. The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Complex often abbreviated as ICC Durban is a large events facility located in the city centre of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
