Hang Tuah's Well
Hang Tuah Well ( ms, Perigi Hang Tuah) is a 1.8-meter-deep water well, which is located in Hang Tuah Village, Kampung Duyong, Duyong, Malacca, Malaysia. It was declared as a historical monument under the Antiquities Act on 29 September 1977. According to the folklore, it is believed that Hang Tuah dug the well himself for his own use. Water Well
A well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, or drilling to access liquid resources, usually water. The oldest and most common kind of well is a water well, to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn up by a pump, or using containers, such as buckets or large water bags that are raised mechanically or by hand. Water can also be injected back into the aquifer through the well. Wells were first constructed at least eight thousand years ago and historically vary in construction from a simple scoop in the sediment of a dry watercourse to the qanats of Iran, and the stepwells and sakiehs of India. Placing a lining in the well shaft helps create stability, and linings of wood or wickerwork date back at least as far as the Iron Age. The Hang Tuah Village ( ms, Perkampungan Hang Tuah) is a village in Kampung Duyong, Malacca, Malaysia. It was opened to the public on 9 August 2013. Malacca ( ms, Melaka) is a state in Malaysia located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, next to the Strait of Malacca. Hang Tuah ( Jawi: , /tuah/ or /toh/) is said to have been a warrior who lived in Malacca during the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah in the 15th century. There is limited historical evidence for his existence. However, he was supposedly a great laksamana, or admiral, and a silat master. Hang Tuah is the most illustrious warrior figure in Malay literature. There is much in dispute about the factual basis of Hang Tuah's story.
