The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) is the Catholic school board for the city of Hamilton, which includes the former Wentworth County. It currently operates 49 elementary schools and 7 secondary schools, along with one continuing education school. History The Hamilton Separate School Board (HSSB) was established in 1855 and the seven other boards were formed for the next 114 years in Wentworth County. In 1969, the boards became known as the Hamilton-Wentworth Roman Catholic Separate School Board (HWRCSSB). Following the Ontario government's passage of the ''Fewer School Boards Act'' of 1997, the HWRCSSB became the ''English-language Separate District School Board No. 47'' in 1998 and was renamed to the ''Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board'' (HWCDSB) in 1999. Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Hamilton has a population of 569,353, and its census metropolitan area, which includes Burlington and Grimsby, has a population of 785,184. Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School is a Catholic secondary school located in Ancaster. It is part of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and is home to students of seven feeder schools. History Founding Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School was founded in 2004. In 2002, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board approved the construction of a new secondary school in Ancaster to alleviate overcrowding at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School on the West Mountain and St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in West Hamilton. The 2022 Hamilton municipal election was a municipal election that occurred on 24 October 2022, as per the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Residents of Hamilton selected one mayor, members of the Hamilton City Council, as well as members of both the English and French Public and Catholic School Boards using a first-past-the-post electoral system in single-member constituencies, called wards. Based on their electoral registration, voters also selected one of 11 Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board trustees, 9 Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board trustees, 1 Conseil scolaire Viamonde trustee, or 1 Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir trustee. It was founded in 1958 and is under the authority of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. History Although construction began the year before, Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School was officially opened on April 16, 1959, by Joseph Francis Ryan, then Bishop of Hamilton.
